Default Freddy Garcia to the Whitesox

The Mariners traded P Freddy Garcia, C Ben Davis and cash to the Whitesox for C Miguel Olivo and minor leaguers OF Jeremy Reed and INF Michael Morse.

I've been very high on Reed for a while, and Davis is an absolute jerk. Olivo, IIRC, is a good catch & throw type. Not a bad deal for the the M's. And, the Chisox get a pitcher they need.

I wonder if the Oritz deal is off now?

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

I am pretty bummed. Olivo is a damn good catcher who I love watching play and I have been waiting for Reed to show up for over a year now. We give this up for 3 months of Freddy Garcia. Seems like a pretty steep price.

The Pale Hose may have paid a dear price for Garcia. Both Reed and Morse look like possible stars and Olivo is certainly a quality back-up. If Garcia pitches as well for the Sox as he did the Mariners this could put the Sox over the top. Still doesn't get them past the good teams outside their division, though.

If this doesn't work out for the Sox, blame Ozzie Guillen. He's said that Freddy is his boy. He probably lobbied hard to get him.

The Pale Hose just announced a $27M, 3 year contract extension with Freddie Garcia. Obviously they like this guy, but it looks like a real risk when you consider the players who might be leaving soon.

Well, it certainly helps them in terms of losing the prospects that they did.........would have been worse if Garcia walked come October.
