I would take Bernie Williams or Juan Gone over Luis Gonzalez.
Raffy P would be my 1B too.

As a Twin & Cub fan let me throw my 2 cents in here. Tony Oliva(born in Cuba) & Rod Carew(born in Panama) both belong on any All-Latin Team. The other Cub I would toss in is George Bell(I know he had his best years in Toronto, but the North Siders traded him to the South Side for Sammy, always earning Bell a soft spot in my heart).

CubFan, there are blacks born in Panama also. I'd thought that Carew was black, not Hispanic like Mariano Rivera or boxer Roberto Duran (both also Panamanian).
Anyway, I think that Pedro Martinez could find his way in there as a SP (if more than one name is allowed). If playing by AL rules, Manny Ramirez could be the DH, no? |

"color" is just a shade. You can be any color and be Latin. Just as you can be any color and be American, or Italian, or Irish, etc. The whole black/white thing is a farce. Michael Jackson is black and George Hamilton is white. Or, are they?

Personally, I'm sort of peachish-pink. Unless I've been out in the sun too long, then I'm kinda bright red.
Here's a revision: 1B: Cepeda 2B: Carew SS: A-Rod 3B: Tony Perez (we've got to do better, Tony was really a 1B) LF: Sammy Sosa CF: Bernie Williams RF: Roberto Clemente (must be on any all-Latin team) C: Ivan Rodriguez SP: Juan Marichal SP: Pedro Martinez SP: Dolf Luque RP: Mariano Rivera |

Vinny Castilla could be the 3B.

BTW, other than Mariano and Mendoza (who I think should be put on the team as a setup man), who are some of the better RP's? |

Where's Luis Tiant? I like Dolf Luque, don't get me wrong, but El Tiante oughta be on the staff in some way. Who'd be the 5th starter in that rotation? Would you go something like Joaquin Andujar, maybe a Jose Rijo perhaps? And would Juan Pizarro spot start?

Wait, stupid me. Andujar and Rijo over Camilo Pascual and Mike Cuellar?
Cuellar oughta be the 5th starter then. |

I think we start Perez at 3B, but maybe the 7th inning onward, you bring in Aurelio Rodriguez as the defensive replacement. (Suddenly realizes he forgot to think about Mexicans on the pitching staff and realizes he forgot Valenzuela...and just realized he didn't have Dennis Martinez on it either) Leo's no hitting star, but as far as 3B go, he's one of the few options available. Unless you wanna bend rules a bit and put Dave Concepcion at the position. I personally might include Aurelio anyway, a good defensive replacement is hard to find. Actually, now that I think about Aurelio's, would Aurelio Lopez be a set-up man on the staff? |

I would only bring him in for the 9th. Not worth risking throwing away an AB in the 8th. He was a terrible hitter!

Here's a revision, 3rd draft.
1B: Cepeda 2B: Carew SS: A-Rod 3B: Tony Perez LF: Sammy Sosa CF: Minnie Minoso RF: Roberto Clemente C: Ivan Rodriguez DH: Tony Oliva SP: Juan Marichal SP: Pedro Martinez SP: Luis Tiant SP: Mike Cuellar SP: Dolf Luque RP: Mariano Rivera I think TSN avoided active players. Doesn't mean we have to. I'm not sure why they didn't pick Carew, unless because he was actually born on U.S. soil (Canal Zone). In that case, Robbie Alomar for 2B. |
