7) Yankees 1B Jason Giambi sprained his right ankle and appears to be headed to the DL.

After 103 RCAA/1.137 OPS and 75 RCAA/1.034 OPS seasons, Giambi hit .427 SLG, .412 OBA, .939 OPS, 51 RCAA in 156 games in 2003 and is off to a .540 SLG, .406 OBA, .946 OPS, 11 RCAA start in his first 37 games. 1) The Royals will call up P Zack Greinke today.

Greinke, 20, will make his major league debut by starting today. He was given an A grade by John Sickels, who ranked him as the #1 pitching prospect in baseball, and was ranked as the Royals #1 prospect by Baseball America.

2) According to the Boston Herald, Raul Mondesi's return is "imminent."

According to the LA Daily News, the Angels are denying a rumor they've contacted him, According to the Orange County Register, GM Bill Stoneman won't deny or confirm the report and says he has to "be open-minded." According to the Boston Globe, Redsox LF Manny Ramirez is lobbying to get the team interested in him, while AP reports the Angels, Redsox, Cardinals and Mariners are interested.

3) The Royals designated OF Adrian Brown for assignment and called up OF Brandon Berger.

Brown has -40 RCAA/.673 OPS in 422 career games, including -1 RCAA/.545 OPS in 5 games in 2004.

Berger has -10 RCAA/.670 OPS in 71 career games.

4) The Royals are moving P Jeremy Affeldt from the rotation to the show up in the 9th inning spot.

After starting his career with 4.64 ERA/5 RSAA and 3.93 ERA/17 RSAA seasons, Affeldt has a 5.24 ERA/0 RSAA in 8 starts.

5) The Orioles signed OF Eugene Kingsale to a minor league contract.

Kingsale has -25 RCAA/.626 OPS in 211 career games.

6) The Devil Rays sent OF Midre Cummings to minors. He had been removed from the 25 and 40 man rosters when he was designated for assignment on Wednesday.

7) The Brewers placed 3B Wes Helms on the 15 day DL and called up 3B Corey Hart.

Helms strained his right knee and will have surgery on Monday.

8) The Mariners activated INF Willie Bloomquist from the DL and sent SS Ramon Santiago to the minors.

Bloomquist has -2 RCAA/.693 OPS in 119 career games, including a .321 SLG, .317 OBA, .638 OPS, -9 RCAA in 89 games in 2003 and a .316 SLG, .300 OBA, .616 OPS, -1 RCAA in 18 games in 2004.

Santiago has -33 RCAA/.609 OPS in 209 career games, including 2 for 8, with a BB, in 3 games in 2004.

9) The Padres activated P Rod Beck from the restricted list, called up P Dennis Tankersley, sent P Eddie Oropesa to the minors and placed INF Ramon Vazquez on the 15 day DL.

Beck had left the team in spring training, due to personal reasons. He has a 3.21 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.17, and 72 RSAA in 678 games, including a 1.78 ERA/8 RSAA in 36 games in 2003.

Tankersley ha a 9.29 ERA/-32 RSAA in 18 career games.

Vazquez has a strained muscle in his rib cage. After 1 RCAA/.706 OPS in his first year as a starter, Vasquez hit .341 SLG, .342 OBA, .684 OPS, -4 RCAA in 116 games in 2003 and is off to a .150 SLG, .313 OBA, .363 OPS, -5 RCAA start in 22 games. He has a .671 career OPS, compared to his league average of .768, and -11 RCAA in 283 games.

Oropesa has a 7.34 ERA/-28 RSAA in 125 career games, including a 5.82 ERA/-4 RSAA in a career high 47 games with the 2003 Diamondbacks and a 11.00 ERA/-7 RSAA in 16 games in 2004.

10) The Mets called up P Tyler Yates and sent OF Esix Snead to the minors.

Yates has a 6.04 ERA/-6 RSAA in his first 6 career starts, earlier this season.

11) Mets P James Baldwin became a free agent when he cleared waivers. He had been removed from the 25 and 40 man rosters when he was designated for assignment on Monday.

12) Mets minor league P Grant Roberts will have surgery on his labrum.

Roberts has a 4.25 ERA/-3 RSAA in 76 career games, including a 17.36 ERA/-7 RSAA in 4 games in 2004.

13) The Rangers placed C Gerald Laird on the 15 day DL, called up C Ken Huckaby and moved P Colby Lewis from the 15 to the 60 day DL.

Laird will have surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb and is expected to miss about 3 months.

Huckaby has -20 RCAA/.571 OPS in 94 career games, almost of them (88) with the 2002 BlueJays.

14) The Redsox re-signed 1B David Ortiz to a 2 year, $12.5 million contract extension, covering 2005-06, with an option for 2007.

After 1 RCAA/.799 OPS and 15 RCAA/.839 OPS seasons, Ortiz hit .592 SLG, .369 OBA, .961 OPS, 33 RCAA in 128 games in 2003 and is off to a .539 SLG, .339 OBA, .878 OPS, 5 RCAA start in his first 41 games. He has a .847 career OPS, compared to his league average of .770, and 52 RCAA in 624 games.

15) The Redsox placed P Scott Williamson on the 15 day DL and called up P Anastacio Martinez.

Williamson has inflammation in his elbow. After 2 game and 2.92 ERA/13 RSAA seasons, Williamson had a 4.16 ERA/2 RSAA in 66 games with the 2003 Reds and Redsox and is off to a 1.69 ERA/6 RSAA start in his first 14 games. He has a 3.06 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.46, and 64 RSAA in 2255 games.

16) The Diamondbacks activated 1B Richie Sexson from the DL and sent OF Doug DeVore to the minors.

After 13 RCAA/.889 OPS and 25 RCAA/.867 OPS seasons, Sexson hit .548 SLG, .379 OBA, .927 OPS, 33 RCAA in 162 games with the 2003 Brewers and is off to a .591 SLG, .337 OBA, .928 OPS, 2 RCAA start in his first 22 games. He has a .877 career OPS, compared to his league average of .779, and 82 RCAA in 835 games.

DeVore had a .143 SLG, .143 OBA, .286 OPS, -3 RCAA in his first 8 career games.

17) Whitesox DH Frank Thomas was scratched from yesterday's lineup, due to an upset stomach.

After 0 RCAA/.758 OPS (just 20 G) and 17 RCAA/.834 OPS seasons, Thomas hit .562 SLG, .390 OBA, .952 OPS, 48 RCAA in 153 games in 2003 and is off to a .567 SLG, .466 OBA, 1.033 OPS, 17 RCAA start in his first 37 games. He has a .997 career OPS, compared to his league average of .763, and 787 RCAA in 1888 games.

18) The Indians signed OF Raul Gonzalez to a minor league contract.

19) The Yankees will call up P Jose Contreras today and send P Bret Prinz to the minors.

Contreras has a 4.60 ERA/-3 RSAA in 23 career games, including a 9.47 ERA/-11 RSAA in 5 starts in 2004.

Prinz has a 4.33 ERA/2 RSAA in 72 career games, including a 0.00 ERA/2 RSAA in 3 games in 2004.
