1) Redsox manager Terry Francona says that, at least for now, Pedro Martinez, and the rest of his starters, will go on a regular 5 day rotation. Instead of pushing the starters back a day, due to off days, 5th starter Bronson Arroyo will miss starts.
After 2.39 ERA/28 RSAA and 2.26 ERA/47 RSAA seasons, Martinez had a 2.22 ERA/53 RSAA in 29 starts in 2003 and is off to a 1.98 ERA/4 RSAA start in 2 starts in 2004. 2) Mets LF Cliff Floyd had to leave yesterday's game, in the 1st inning, due to a strained right thigh. After 53 RCAA/.968 OPS and 42 RCAA/.920 OPS seasons, Floyd hit .518 SLG, .376 OBA, .894 OPS, 20 RCAA in 108 games in 2003 and is off to a .600 SLG, .417 OBA, 1.017 OPS, 2 RCAA start in 6 games in 2004. He has a .860 career OPS, compared to his league average of .774, and 154 RCAA in 1069 games. 3) The Cardinals placed OF Roger Cedeno on the 15 day DL and called up 2B Bo Hart. Cedeno has a pulled left hamstring. In 2003, Hart hit .395 SLG, .317 OBA, .713 OPS, -4 RCAA in his first 77 career games. 4) Braves LF Chipper Jones had to leave yesterday's game, due to a mild strained hamstring and be re-evaluated before this afternoon's game. After 65 RCAA/1.032 OPS and 55 RCAA/.972 OPS seasons, Jones hit .517 SLG, .402 OBA, .920 OPS, 43 RCAA in 153 games in 2003 and is off to a .545 SLG, .500 OBA, 1.045 OPS, 3 RCAA start in 6 games in 2004. He has a .946 career OPS, compared to his league average of .774, and 421 RCAA in 1411 games. 5) Braves manager Bobby Cox hinted that SS Rafael Furcal, who strained his lower back on Friday, could be headed for the DL. 6) According to the Daily Southtown, Whitesox RF Magglio Ordonez said the sides are "close" to a new contract, with the holdup being Ordonez wants 5 years, the team wants 4 and Ordonez doesn't want the contract to be as backloaded as the team does. After 38 RCAA/.914 OPS and 46 RCAA/.978 OPS seasons, Ordonez hit .546 SLG, .380 OBA, .926 OPS, 39 RCAA in 160 games in 2003 and is off to a .800 SLG, .385 OBA, 1.185 OPS, 5 RCAA start in his first 6 games in 2004. He has a .894 career OPS, compared to his league average of .774, and 146 RCAA in 955 games. 7) Cubs 2B Mark Grudzielanek has been out of the lineup for the past 2 games, and 3 out of the last 4, due to soreness in his right Achilles tendon. He'll be re-evaluated today. After -7 RCAA/.711 OPS and -16 RCAA/.665 OPS seasons, Grudzielanek hit .416 SLG, .366 OBA, .782 OPS, 6 RCAA in 121 games in 2003 and is off to a .467 SLG, .529 OBA, .996 OPS, 2 RCAA start in his first 4 games in 2004. He has a .717 career OPS, compared to his league average of .774, and -73 RCAA in 1222 games. 8) Cubs manager Dusty Baker is denying the speculation that SS Alex Gonzalez is in danger of losing his starting job. If it happens, Grudzielanek would move to SS and Todd Walker could take over at 2B. 9) The Twins signed P Joe Beimel to a minor league contract. Beimel had a 5.00 ERA/-20 RSAA in 164 games with the 2001-03 Pirates.
