The sheep and the goats are being separated, and some players are quickly becoming expendable. Who do you think will get traded over the next couple of months, and to whom?

I can see the White Sox adding a SP.
I can see Boston & the Yankees trying to add a SP. I can see the Yankees going after a LOOGY. I can't see many other teams being able to add much payroll. I can see teams holding off on Beltran I can see Randy Johnson not accepting a trade. There may not be as much going down this year as in years past.

I think Carlos Delgado will move (or at least be traded and reject the trade)

Think the trading will be a little more active than in recent years. Some of it is just teams in situations that make trades necessary. Of the following some will be moved (not all but some):
Delgado, Beltran, Johnson, Lawton, Vizquel, McGriff, Mientkiewicz, Garcia, F, Moyer, Olerud, Boone, Lofton, Hairston/Roberts. And I've just scratched the surface. This is a list including several future HOF'rs. Money and failure to contend or contending but missing one piece all combine to facilitate trades. |

I see Beltran going sooner rather than later, to either the Yankees or Dodgers. I would bet Vizquel is available, and that Freddy Garcia will go somewhere. I would like to see my Reds add a starting pitcher, but they will only operate on a budget.

Garcia will probably be moved, but the availability of Omar is up in the air. Right now the Tribe's only 5 games out, so obviously they're still in the race. Also, Vizquel is a 5 & 10 guy, and has said he'll only go to Seattle.

According to the Lee Mocks New York Press and Yankees Trade Rumors Act of 2000, I am required by federal law to make this post at least once a year--
According to figures that I saw on C-SPAN a few weeks ago, there are approximately 293 million people in the US. According to the last figures I saw, the US population is approximately 48% male (that came from the mid '90s, but it's good enough for our current purposes). That gives us approximately 140.64 million males in the country and I predict every one of them will be included in a Yankees trade rumor. I'll start them off--I'm going to be traded to the Yankees for a player to be named later, who turns out to be a Rookie ball 25th man on the roster. Steve's going to the Yankees for a player to be named later, who's the 25th man down in A ball. And at least one NDFer will be rumored to be going to the Yankees for "future considerations", instead of a PTBNL.

To LargeBills Mientkiewicz mention, I don't see the Twins moving him during the season, that hasn't been there style in the past - That said I also don't see him back in 2005, they will probably non-tender him in the off season - Justin Morneau will probably be the 1st baseman next year occasionally spelled by Big Matthew LeCroy - I could see the Twins adding a 5th starter or swing-man if they can get cheaply, maybe dangling Restovich as trade bait
I think Freddie is going to wind up with the White Sox although I have nothing to back up that statement with - Same goes for my theory that Brltran winds up playing in Orange County for the Angels I would be suprised if Randy Johnson is traded, the D-Backs have enough problems that they don't need that PR nightmare

Sorry to correct about Mientkiewicz, but he is currently signed to a two-year deal through next season with a club option for 2006, although there is no reason not to have Morneau on the roster now.

Vizquel's not going anywhere. He's a 10 and 5 guy and has said he will only accept a trade to Seattle. The Indians tried to do that before the season started. He failed Seattle's physical. I don't think Shapiro will even try to move him again. Seattle already has a shortstop that's proving to be a bust for them. If Omar does accept a trade, it would be to a sure-shot playoff team, I don't think Omar will be willing to go. Even then it's pushing it. I'm not sure how much you could get in return for Omar, it's his contract season, and who knows if he'll play next year. So, I'm selfish, but I'm hoping that Omar finishes the season and retires with the Indians....and wears Chief Wahoo into Cooperstown. (OK, I know that last part's a long shot, but I hope he makes it).

No need to wait for the deadline. The trade of the year has just taken place.
The Yankees have sent P Gabe White back to the Reds for minor league P Charlie Manning.
