We talked about this last summer: http://www.netshrine.com/vbulletin2/...ad.php?t=10964

Here's more - - http://www.tnt.tv/Movies/WinningSeason/0,17579,,00.html

I think it will air in about 2 or 3 weeks. Will you watch it?

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Have you read The Baseball Same Game?

You bet. If there's even twenty minutes worth of quality baseball in it, it will be two hours well spent.

I can live through a sappy, contrived love story. Anyway, it'll have to be better than "Cobb".

What makes me want to watch it? The fact that it's about baseball.

What makes me not want to watch it? It stars Matthew Modine and Kristin Davis!

So I'm kind of on the fence here - maybe I'll record it, then read the reviews you guys post before I make a decision.

I'll certainly watch it, but not with high hopes. This has all the ear marks of the Doris Day, Ronald Reagan movie about Grover Cleveland Alexander.

I can't say I found the write-up particularly inspiring. Still... one can hope.

I think it looks like it'll be pretty good. I'm anxious to see it since I don't know much about Honus Wagner other than Wayne Gretzky paid a ton of cash for his playing card.

The movie is a fantasy, about a kid that finds the T-206 Honus card from 1909, attempts to take it, and is magically transported back to 1909 and meets Wagner. I don't think Modine looks much like the man himself, but oh well.

Don't expect it to be about baseball, if you watch it.

This movie is supposed to be based on a book by Dan Gutman. Gutman's an author whose target age is elementary school.

Bad news for me - I liked his book "Baseball Babylon."

So it must be based on "Honus and me: a baseball card adventure." Gutman has a bunch of the "Baseball Card Adventure" books, including Jackie Robinson, Cal Ripken, Babe Ruth and Joe Jackson. Kids like them quite a bit, at least from what I've seen here.

I wasn't planning on watching, but this pretty much solidifies it.

That one was one of his few adult books. But, the one the movie is based is on is characterized by Amazon's reviews as grades 4-6.

Terrible, terrible, movie.
Low budget production. Weak, at best, acting.
After 33 minutes, I saw enough. For me to turn off a movie with even a hint of baseball in it (I watched "Three Wishes" yesterday just to see the LL scenes again) you know the movie is bad.

I would have turned it off at 8:33 - 'cept I had another 27 minutes to kill until something else was on.

Gosh, why did they make this movie? What a waste of resources. If you missed it, you didn't really miss anything.
