Exclamation ESPN Brantley: I Believe Bonds Used

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/s...orts-headlines

Quote:
ESPN analyst Jeff Brantley, who played with Bonds on the 1993 San Francisco Giants, went on the air and said he believed Bonds has used steroids. Brantley said he didn't think Bonds used them until recent years, and even then only to overcome a knee injury.

Bonds underwent arthroscopic knee surgery at the end of the 1999 season.

"He had to get back in a hurry, and I think he was using that to get his knee back together," Brantley said. "I don't think it was something that he tried to make himself any bigger or make himself any better, but I think he just used [steroids] to heal himself and his knee.

"Once you start doing that and you see the effects of that, it just kind of starts spinning out of control."

Did anyone see him say this on ESPN? Are the quotes out of context?

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Default Surprising

I can understand how we can make all sorts of claims and accusations while hiding somewhere in the internet. However, I'm surprised how many people are making public claims that Bonds used. Andy Van Slyke also made a firm statement that he "knew" Bonds used steroids. Either some of these guys really can't stand Barry or something. Otherwise why would they interject themselves into the conversation. Brantley I can understand. He is being paid to talk. What's the motivation of other retired players?

Bonds and Van Slyke did not get along as players. This could be part of that.

The Van Slyke thing was ridiculous. He said he knew positively that Bonds took steroids and then later says that he never saw him take them himself.

The Brantley thing looks like a poor choice of words. They aren't too many adults in the US who haven't taken steroids for some medical issue or other. I have bad sinuses and occasionally have some pretty bad sinus infections. Part of the drug regiment I have to take includes Prednisone which is a prescription steroid. Therer are numerous other steroid products that are used for very vaild medical reasons.

None of those is an anabolic steroid, though. That's the key differentiator, I think.

Either way, unless someone has seen bonds physically take the steriods, they should shut up!
