Default Where is Febles in the Red Sox 2B mix?

Watching the final inning of a spring training game the other night, I noticed Carlos Febles in the Red Sox dugout. I hadn't even known they had acquired him.

This short piece on Yahoo's sports ticker identifies only Reese and Bellhorn as candidates for 2B for the Red Sox. Are they considering Febles? Should they be? Febles's star has falled quite a bit since his days as a promising, toolsy rookie with Kansas City, but he's no worse a hitter than Pokey Reese. Reese has the advantage in defense, I suppose, though Febles is pretty good. Bellhorn can maybe hit a little better though everyone must know 2002 was a fluke.

Does Febles deserve a chance among Reese and Bellhorn? I remember being excited about him in his early seasons, along with the rest of that promising young Royals offense. He hasn't lived up to that promise. Still, shouldn't he be considered? Why did the Sox pick him up if not to give him a chance?

Johnny Damon is singing his praises.

Just like the Yankees there are not too many open spots for the Sox this year.

2nd base bat is one of them. This may be the ST surprise.

I really hope Febles doesn't make the sox this year. He's like Reese's bat with Bellhorn's glove.

Febles used to be an excellent 2B, but has lost a lot of range in the last three years.

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Have you read The Baseball Same Game?

Over the past 2 years, 2B have combined for -322 and -321 RCAA. In the past quarter century, those are the 2nd and 3rd worst 2B figures, ahead of just the -406 they posted in 1996.

Yeah, that's probably a good way to put it. I guess it makes sense for him not to be seriously considered for the job, but why did they pick him up?

I'm just sadly remembering watching the Royals back in 1999 and thinking "these are some promising young players." Johnny Damon was part of that team, of course - I guess he remembers it fondly too.
