Default Coco Crisp Soggy?

Coco's chances of making the Indians are reportedly not good, with Matt Lawton in shape and Bradley and Gerut inked into the lineup: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slu...ight&type=lgns

I think he could stick - I wonder how good Lawton will really be.

Crisp is heading into his year 24 season with a career OPS of .666 in about 700 PA's. He doesn't walk, not a lot of power, and isn't a good base stealer. He's young but he really needs to pick it up.

Great title! Coco has a lot of competition in Cleveland. He has to step it up or he won't break into the lineup.

He's just a Bradley snafu away from a chance at more PT. Those are pretty good odds.

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Have you read The Baseball Same Game?

My guess is that Grady Sizemore would get Bradley's spot and Lawton is traded in July. Then Crisp would get a chance. I love the excitement he brings to a game.

Crisp is hitting .383 this spring. He's a lock for a job with the Indians.

Still not sure whether he's just a AAA hitter or not. The Prospectus sure is down on him, but it's still too early to write off a guy who absolutely tore up the IL.

With that kind of a spring, yeah, he's definately breaking camp with the team. But he'll have to really pour it on during the season if he ever wants to be more than just a late-inning defensive replacement. Maybe he can learn to take a few more walks and become a lead-off hitter? Because I really doubt he'll improve much on his slugging numbers.

Nah. Grady won't be called up until September. There's NO WAY the Indias will rush him to the bigs. They're not in contention yet, so next year is Grady's best chance. If "Game Boy" gets hurt, CF is all Coco's. LF is the mess with Lawton, Escobar, & Ludwick fighting for playing time. I sure hope Matt Lawton plays himself into a trade this year. Gotta make way for the guys that are going to be there down the road. I don't know how that OF is going to fill out. Bradley, Gerut, Escobar, Ludwick, Crisp, and Sizemore. 6 guys for 3 starting positions. Ludwick is probably the first to go of the bunch. Unfortunately for Coco, if he stays with the Indians, he's likely to be a platoon player at best. Gerut, Bradley, Escobar, and Sizemore are the big 4, and I think Escobar is running out of chances. An outfield of Gerut, Escobar, and Sizemore in 2005 would look pretty good.

Hmmmm. I think I've rambled enough.

Looks like Wedge is going to rotate CF between Escobar and Crisp, and see how it shakes out. Nice competition there. Escobar sure is a graceful athlete, and has a helluva an arm according to Manning on last night's telecast. If he hits .280 he'll be a lock for the job.

They're not sure if Sizemore is capable of handling CF. He's probably a better fit for a corner OF job.
