Question Jose Canseco Book: "Dare to Truth"

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1748591

When Canseco's book comes out in 6 months, will you buy/read it?

Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun.
- Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez, in The Sandlot

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Have you read The Baseball Same Game?

I'd sort of like to read it in a train-wreck sort of way. I'll more likely just read a bunch of reviews and rehashes of the book in places like this, saving my money and figuring I hit all the high points anyway.

Same here. Bill James once wrote that Nails (Dykstra's autobiography) was quite possibly the worst book ever written on any topic. I suspect that Canseco and his unfortunate ghost may well contend for that honor. I'd like to say I've read Canseco's book in the same way I'd like to say I've driven through downtown Boston -- not for the miserable experience itself but for the awe it inspires in others.

I don't think I would be interested in a book by a guy who has an agenda and a poor one at that.

Never, ever would I pay to read something this s*****g wrote. I can't even imagine how many lies & BS will be in this book. It's hard to believe but when I was a kid he was my favorite player. Being the first player with 40 SB & 40 HR was a great accomplishment. Now he's just a joke & with all of his antics it's hard to remember that at one time he was a very good player.

I won't bother, for the same reasons that Skip stated. I'll get the gist of it from people here, and I'm sure any big excerpts will be featured in SI or one of its ilk.

And what kind of title is that?

I might borrow it from the library, but I doubt I would pay actual money for it.

Default lucky me..

Of course there is a good side of living so far away from MLB.... I figure there is very little chance of canseco's book appearing in a bookstore anywhere near me in the next decade or so....

slightly off topic but has there ever been a case of a retired athlete writing a good book? We pay enough to watch them let alone give them extra to try something they are no good at.

Off topic, but yes - I really enjoyed The Game by Ken Dryden and North Dallas Forty by Peter Gent

I'm sure it will be excerpted just enough for me to be really relieved that I have no interest in reading it.

Same as for the Rose book, probably not, even if I saw it in the $1.49 bin at a bookstore......
