Default g'day from down under

another fan from far away who found his path through the always informative ATM reports (thanks lee). Baseball isn't huge here but we have been lucky to have a handful or so of Aussies make the Majors over the years (i think Dave Nilsson even made the All Star game one year which was pretty big news down under).

I'm a Braves fan (long used to "almost but not quite" getting excited each post-season) but love the sport and love watching good teams and great players whoever it happens to be.

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

ahh. mighty Joe Quinn... never got to see him play but they say his 1890 season was a good one....

Craig Shipley was our modern day trail blazer though - i am sure he kicked around for a few years before nilsson and lloyd came on the scene.

Isn't Adam Pettyjohn from Australia as well?? And the LHP who came up with the Braves with the cool sideburns? Nilsson was a quality backstop...I was a bit disappointed when he retired. I understand he's been instrumental in helping baseball flourish back home, though.

Welcome!!

FWIW, I just read this AM that Nilsson signed a minor league deal with the Braves - - you may have another country mate back in the bigs soon.

Don't forget about the Mariner's oft injured nut Chris Snelling (will this be the year he makes the team? Or will decide to go take a header into another outfield wall?)
