Bonds Calls Out Wendell - Also Isn't Going To Take Much Mess

Barry Bonds called out Turk Wendell for calling him a steroid user in the Denver Post.

He also said he won't put up with being a target from pitchers.

I was wondering when the first shot would be fired at Bonds from a player, and what his response would be. Not cordial, as I assumed.

I'm kind of torn here - I think Bonds' reaction was appropriate, considering Wendell's actions. I know that Turk isn't alone in thinking Bonds uses steroids, but I don't think he has any right to speak out on the matter until it's proven that Bonds is a user.

On the other hand, I'm kind of impressed that some players might be calling out others. Bad idea for them, but it's nice to see that other players aren't immune from speaking their minds on sensitive topics like this.

"If my personal trainer, me, Turk Wendell, got indicted for that, there's no one in the world who wouldn't think that I wasn't taking steroids," Wendell was quoted as saying by the Post. "I mean, what, because he's Barry Bonds, no one's going to say that? I mean, obviously he did it. (His trainer) admitted to giving steroids to baseball players. He just doesn't want to say his name. You don't have to. It's clear just seeing his body."

Rockies pitcher Denny Neagle also chimed in on the subject.

"It is a pretty good coincidence that some of the names that are linked to them are the guys that are the big, massive, overmuscular looking guys," Neagle told the Post.

"I don't know or remember what Jason Giambi looked like back in his early days, but I know he wasn't as big as he is now. The jury is always going to be out on Barry."

If you took the brains of Turk and Neagle, combined them, and put them into the head of a bird, the bird would fly backwards.

Leave it to these two dunces to make comments like these, IMHO.

They were just the two who were stupid enough to talk about it on the record. Look at any Bonds thread that comes up at the NDF these days. The issue of steroids is always lurking. These two bozos can't be the only two in MLB who think it (and, in their somewhat defense, at least Neagle didn't leave it at Bonds).

Wendell is never immune from speaking his mind though I don't think it's much of a mind.

When he was still with the Mets they got into a brushback fight with the Expos and he said something to the effect "foreigners like Guererro should walk back to their homeland if they don't like it."

It's kind of like being brought to task by Ernest T. Bass.

J. Tony Serra, the San Francisco lawyer representing Anderson, said that federal investigators searching Anderson's Burlingame condo last fall seized schedules for taking various substances. Anderson created the schedules for his clients.
``One of them was for Barry, allegedly,'' Serra said. ``From that, I guess, people have made inferences that Bonds took them. Anderson is categorically emphatic that Bonds never took them. He was presented with a schedule, but Bonds refused. That's what Anderson says, and there's no reason for him to lie.''

looks like trail date won't be established until mid-March at the earliest.

Serra said Bonds was offered something that prosecutors have referred to in documents as "a 'clear' steroid-like substance" -- apparently the newly unmasked steroid THG. Serra said Bonds was offered that substance "by two or three people" through Anderson, but declined to try it.
