It was the Yankees' only pennant from 1929-35, due to the A's dynasty and the lack of a solid Yankee pitching staff, as well as the twilight of Babe Ruth. Still, the triple crown winner will get the MVP.
Best player: Jimmie Foxx. He was technically behind Dale Alexander in average, but Alexander would not qualify under today's rules: too few PA. Best pitcher: Lefty Grove, leader in ERA and CG, 2nd in wins and strikeouts. Best rookie: Johnny Allen, 17-4, 3.70 ERA for the Yankees. |

Best Hitter: Jimmie Foxx
Double X had a beast of a year. He had an OPS+ of 206, hit 58 home runs and came within .003 BA of a triple crown. Ruth was second and it took every bit of greatness from Foxx to beat him out. Best Pitcher: Lefty Grove Maybe they should call it the Lefty Grove award instead. Grove was 25-10 with an ERA+ of 159. Tommy Bridgges pitched well but only had a 14-12 record to show for it. |
