Best Hitter: Mike Schmidt
Murphy won but I'd go with Schmidt. Schmidt led the league in OPS+ while playing Gold Glove defense at 3b.

best Pitcher: Steve Rogers
Lefty was good but Rogers was better. Rogers led the league in ERA+ while going 19-8 for the Expos

Best Rookie: Steve Sax
Johnny Ray was equally as good but I'll give the nod to Sax because of speed and because he did it in a pennant race.

Best player: Mike Schmidt. The top OPS in the league and a darn good fielder too. Murphy won because his team won, after that season-starting win streak.

Best pitcher: Steve Rogers. The other Steve had more wins, but Rogers was the ERA+ leader and the better pitcher this year.

Best rookie: Chili Davis is who I would have voted for at the time. With perfect hindsight, I say Ryne Sandberg.
