Baseball's Book of Firsts
Nice coffee table book. Found it in the discount section of the store today. 8 bucks for a quick history of many significant "firsts". If you're looking for a nice coffee table type book, I would recommend it.
An example: The first manager to use a lefty/righty relief combo: Dick Williams in 1972. There is a 2 paragraph background on the subject, along with photos. Now we know who to blame for all the excess commercials in those 2-1 ballgames when managers can't quit changing pitchers. Another one, and one that we don't hear too often: The first latin ballplayer. Give up? Estaban Ballan, in 1871. Troy Haymakers of the National Association.

Nope - just wondering - - cause Nemec does a paperback on this type of stuff every year or so.

I have it too, it's a pretty fun book. Especially if you can find it for 8 bucks.
