Question In Need Of A Strikeout

Of all the pitchers in history (since 1900) with 500+ career Ks above the league average, only four pitchers have a "Ks above average/IP" ratio above .4

They are:

Randy Johnson
Nolan Ryan
Pedro Martinez
Sandy Koufax

If you were managing a game, and needed a strikeout, and could choose one of these four to come into the game for you, who would you chose and why?

I picked the Unit. He is simply scary on the mound.

We don't know if the batter is right or lefty, which would make a difference. Without that knowledge, and without any remembrance of Koufax, because I'm too young, I'd pick Pedro for one strikeout. Johnson and Ryan are/were not always dominant in early innings, or at least not as dominant as Pedro at the beginning of a game (probably due to the world's greatest changeup). One strikeout with a fresh pitcher? I want Pedro.

Of those on the list, I chose Unit, but if I could have ANY pitcher for just one K, I'd take Rob Dibble any day.

Default Tough to call, but Koufax wins out.

Due to the fact that Koufax was one of the best money pitchers in the history of the game, he's my top choice.

Nothing against the others, but I couldn't pass him up.

I've seen them all, and Koufax gets my vote.

Not a slight to any of the others, but Sandy is the gold standard in my book.

I'll take Pedro, but if the batter is a lefty, I might chose to switch to Koufax.

I would choose 1999 model Pedro. That is just plain nasty. Another not on the list is a Tim Wakefield knuckle ball. When it is on, it is the best stike out pitch in the game.

I'd have to say Pedro. A master of 4 different pitches.

The career numbers say to take Unit. The "peak" season numbers say to take Pedro in 1999. But, for me, I'm taking Ryan - he threw the hardest out of these four. And, for just one K, I want a guy who can pump gas like the Express did in his prime.

I would need to do some research. I would want to know more about how these guys came into a game cold plus their likliehood of getting a popup, perhaps the second best thing to a popup.

Koufax 0.48 2.93
Johnson 0.51 3.08
Pedro 0.29 4.38
Ryan 0.45 2.04
