If you could go back and give Bobby Bonds a base hit for every walk he took, or maybe a homer for every base he stole, he would be a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame, right?
It's not asking too much to change just one universal baseball rule for just one player if it means the difference between immortality in the Hall of Fame or just being a really good ballplayer, is it? Or let's take Dave Kingman. Change even one-tenth of his career strikeouts to homers ... man, he'd be inducted pretty fast, even though he was a world-class jerk. What do you guys think? What one rule would you change for one player if it meant the difference between being inducted or having to pay his way in like everyone else? |

How about making it "legal" to throw world series games? Then Shoeless Joe could join the Immortals at Cooperstown.

Mandate that outfield Gold Gloves are awarded on the basis of one per position, not all three going to CFs each year. As Peter Gammons has said, that's like giving the infield GGs to four shortstops each year. Absolutely stupid.
This would impact any number of corner OFs who would deservedly have some defensive accolades to go with their offensive numbers when HOF credentials were examined. Albert Belle, Jim Rice, Tim Raines, Rocky Colavito, Bob Allison, Jose Cruz, and Johnny Callison are just a few whose cases would be advanced by this idiotic rule being changed. Tony Oliva and Minnie Minoso and Jackie Jensen and Roger Maris and Reggie Smith are a few who could well have received more than just the one token award each received. Are all of these guys worthy of induction? No. Are all of their cases better if they had fairly been recognized as the best defensive LF or RF in the league for a few of their years? Absolutely. |

How about giving pitchers credit for a win for every 25 homers surrendered ?? Then, Blyleven is over 300 wins and makes that Hall Of Fame.
