Default Brew Crew

Who were the principals in the first trade of the Milwaukee Brewers (this is not trick question so don't worry about the Seattle Pilots)??

I guess I should make this clearer. I do mean the team now known as the Brewers (you know the Seligs).

That's what Baseball-Reference.com says....I guess since the 'official' date was April 1, 1970 for the franchise to be in Milwaukee, it was the immortal Roy Foster and Frank Coggins To the Indians for Max Alvis and Russ Snyder......

April 1, 1970, was not when they assumed the name Milwaukee Brewers. So it is not those guys.

Hmm.....

According to the Brewers/MLB official site http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/NAS...y_timeline.jsp

it was April 1...although the Milwaukee Brewers Inc. had existed for some time and of course the move from Seattle was known before that.

Also, trivia time - The Brewers were one of the original 8 AL teams in 1901 - moving to St. Louis the following year. There was a minor league team in MIlwaukee until the Braves came.

If you look up my guess, you'll find that I knew that. That's why KC had to explanate the question further.

I figured...although I think that would make it Tom Leahy to Philly for Phil Geier? I can't find Waldron's transation - I don't think it could've been earlier though - Milwaukee had only played 30 games at that point and Waldron logged 62 before being shipped off.

As I recall - that franchise was one of the Western League teams that survived (along with Detroit) when Ban Johnson started the AL.....so the Brewers (?) existed before???

Guys, I am not jerking you around. This trade involved the 1970 Brewers. It just isn't the guys you named.

Was it the Brunet for Dave Baldwin deal during the offseason, or does that still count as the Pilots?

per baseballlibrary.com:
Thursday, January 15
The Oakland Athletics trade C Phil Roof, OF Mike Hershberger and pitchers Lew Krausse and Ken Sanders to the Brewers for 1B Don Mincher and infielder Ron Clark. It is the Brewers' first trade.

WTG, Rajah. I agree that baseballlibray isn't infallible so maybe the other guys are right, but I had to go with them.

That's hard to reconcile with the fact, and it is a fact that the sale of the Pilots was not signed until March 31st and was not 'official' until the following day - April 1. In fact the team played as the Pilots throughout spring training in 1970 - after which the pilots were ordered sold by the bankruptcy judge....of course Selig had a de facto agreement from September 1969.
