Hitter - Cobb....pretty clearly over Collins, Speaker, Crawford et al. 1st in OPS, OBA, 2nd in SLG, led in runs, walks, hites, average amongst the leaders in doubles and triples. Notmuch not to like.
Smokey Joe Wood started off great 15-5 1.49 ERA, but, depending on who you listen to, the sore arm he got in 1912 or the broken thumb in spring training of 1913 finally ended his career - he would only pitch 7 more times, totally missing 1916 and 1918. So it pretty much has to be Johnson again - with maybe Coveleski 2nd? (22-13 2.45 ERA) and a nod to Hooks Dauss 24-13 2.50 ERA. |

Best Batter: Ty Cobb
Finally played a full year after a couple of years playing less than the full amount of games. Cobb led the legue in BA, OBP, Runs, SB, was second SLG%, and was third in RBI behind two teammates who benefited from driving him in. Eddie Collins had another good year in his first year with the White Sox. Best Pitcher: Walter Johnson Finished first in wins, innings and ERA+. Johnson posts his sixth 20 win season in a row. He wouldn't dip under 20 until 1920! |
