Default Over 5 Years on Cooperstown Ballot

There are 9 players currently on the HOF ballot who have been on the ballot now for more than 5 years. If you could vote for ONLY one of these players, which would you chose - and why?

Blyleven is just so totally overlooked. His statistics make him the biggest error in judgment made by the voters. It's pathetic that he is not enshrined.

Bert is by far the best of that group.

BTW, the Internet Hall of Fame balloting results have been announced at http://premium.baseballprospectus.co...articleid=2501. The article is free.

Bert is truly deserving. Should have been in on the first ballot.

I guess Blyleven and Rice have the strongest credentials, maybe Sutter for his role in changing the closer position.....none of them are particularly strong candidates IMO. I'd go Rice before Blyleven because his '75-'86 is hall-worthy and I can't quite get my hands around Bert's Wpct...although I know that's at least partially a team function, but I don't feel strongly about it one way or another.

ESPN's poll, which has drawn over 100,000 votes at this point isn't giving anyone an induction, but Danny Darwin did receive .9% of the vote.

Paul Molitor, Eck, and Sandberg come closest. Bert only got 31.7% of the popular, relatively uninformed vote.

Blyleven is the best of the bunch, with Rice and Sutter behind. I haven't been able to work up much enthusiasm for any of them for the Hall (besides Rice and some emotions).

Hall of Very Good for all three. (But, I wouldn't riot in the streets if any of three were inducted. Danny Darwin on the other hand... )

Interesting note on Bert - every pitcher with 5000+ IP since 1900 is in the HOF. Bert has 4970. No one is between him and the 5000 group. That alone should be enough.

Blyleven probably deserves it more than anyone else. If he had pitched on some good teams he would be in.

I voted for Rice because, well, I'm not Bert Blyleven. In an unbiased moment, I would have voted for Bert, then Rice. After them, I don't see anyone I'd be comfortable voting for.

My choice came down to Bert and Tommy John. I chose John for non-stat reasons. Former White Sox pitcher. Came back from what was once a devastating injury. I like slop pitchers. Randy Jones of San Diego was a fave of mine.

Sutter is third.

Although I believe that Jim Rice belongs in Cooperstown, I'd have to vote for Blyleven as the single most deserving of this list - he really should have gone in on the first ballot. Several much weaker candidate have been elected in recent years (most notably the Padres/Cardinals Aparicio clone)

Exclamation

Got to go with Bert. He's put up some remarkably good numbers, often for some not so very good teams. He's been overlooked for far too long.
