What kind of ballpark PETCO park and Citizens Bank Park will be? According to recent experience, building a ballpark pitchers favored will turns teams to contenders very quickly. Like M's & Giants.
Dimensions of PETCO park (I hate this name): Left field: 334 feet; left-center: 367 feet; center field: 390 feet; deepest right-center: 409 feet; right-center: 387 feet; right field: 322 feet. Dimensions of Citizens Bank Park: Left field line: 329 ft.; power alley: 369 ft.; LF corner: 385 ft.; inner corner: 381 ft.; left of CF: 409 ft.; center field: 401 ft.; right of CF: 398 ft.; RF power alley: 369 ft.; right field line: 330 ft.

The M's and the Giants were probably contenders before they went to their new parks.
I don't think there is any evidence to suggest that a new park or a new park's characteristics make a team into a contender - however if the team increases revenues and is willingto spend that, it certainly helps. Comerica is not such a bad pitchers park, but it didn't bring in revenues, nor did they really spend (except an understandable mistake for Higgo) any of the revenues....pretty awful team. The Jake was accompanied by some spending and helped build the Indians into something - but note where they are now. The Brewers parlayed a "240 mil" commitment from their ownership into an actual 8Mil contribution for Miller Park - a great hitter's park, increased revenues, spent less and see what they have. And the beat goes on.... |

also, the Rockies became contenders quite quickly, 'winning' the wild card in just their 3rd season (2nd full season) of existence

Do you know how large are the foul zone surrounding the fair zone? Looks a fool question but how manny foul flyes in Fenway are outs in Dodger St. That is part of the trick.

These parks at first sight looks similars to Great American Park of Cincinnati, which in the last year was practically a neutral park. But the Padres looks more concerned about their offensive than in their pitching and that could be a clue about the park will trend to be a pitchers park.

These're the best view I can get and both ballparks are not ready. PETCO Park of Padres http://sandiego.padres.mlb.com/sd/im...-a100003-1.jpg Citizen Bank Park of Phillies http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com..._4_432x282.jpg Seems like CBP got a pretty large foul zone.

I've been reading that it will take a 9-iron and two tries to try and hit a ball out of Petco in Right-Center. Supposedly the winds - which they thought would favor the hitter, will not, all around as well. Worth watching. Could hurt Giles and Klesko's numbers.

Just have fun. - Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez, in The Sandlot I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller! Have you read The Baseball Same Game? |
