He's had some arm trouble, hasn't he. This may be the best way to save his arm - but I'd rather start him.

Not totally sold on this...do they have a replacement for him in the rotation? And after Jennings, who else is even in it?

The only good reason I can think of to move a good starter to the bullpen is if he has durability/injury problems. In this case, I think it's justified.

I understand it more now...I recall Chin-Hui Tsao being someone the Rocks were big on, and I'm now believing that he's the replacement.

I still believe Chacon's a better starter, but Colorado knows his stuff a lot more than I've ever known, so they must know what's right for him.

i think they see a combo of his stuff (fastball-curve combo) and his injury woes....

And Dan O'Dowd seems so smart ...

Come on, does anyone actually believe closing is easier on your arm than starting and if so, prove it to me. I'll give you full credit in the book.

Look at Eric Gagne...he was an ineffective starter with potential before the Dodgers moved into the bullpen...next thing you know he's the best closer since Eckersley. A lot of that came from the fact he didn't have to hold back with his pitches. It's why Smoltz has success closing. Chacon may not follow that blueprint, but the thinking is likely he has good stuff and he needs to show it.

Thats the theory behind Smoltz moving to closer. He had elbow surgery a month or 2 ago. Its only once case, but it certainly supports your theory Will.

Why else would veteran pitchers who have trouble with the stamina needed for starting move to the bullpen?

It's CW, which of course doesn't mean it's right. But it sounds right.
