Which current Free Agent and former star will be forced to retire this offseason - because no team will want them now?

Dean Palmer's career was declared legally dead in 2001.

None of the above, tho Ashby probably won't be signed this season due to his injury.

probably more than one on this list. Palmer definetly. Galaraga probably. Ashby and Young possibly.

At 38, and coming off a 6.52 season where the media pretty much blamed him for single-handedly costing his team a playoff spot, you've got to think Mesa's going to have trouble finding a job this spring.

I think someone might take a chance with a minor league conditional contract with Mesa. since relief pitchers often get a second chance because of small sample size. he won't be a "closer" . I think more than one on the list will retire but Palmer is surest.

Palmer's sell-by date was somewhere around 2000. I'm hoping he'll hang them up for his sake.

Mesa caused me a lot of pain, personally, this past season, and I hope he finds himself retired. Unless the Braves want him.

Julio Franco, 44 years old, must but theorically one but his last season was really good, similar to Galarraga.
You never know what will be the fate of Rickey Henderson but looks as this last season was his last.
Greg Vaughn, Ron Gant, Charles Nagy, Terry Mullholland and Jesse Orozco looks done.

I think someone will take a chance on Palmer for cheap. I wouldn't want Mesa on my team at any price.

Mesa was the first one to spring to mind, although Palmer could run a close second.

No telling in that group. Ashby really doesn't count since he just had major arm surgery and will miss all next year anyway. let's hope in fairness to youngsters who need a job that they all get whacked.

Yeah, but will he sign for cheap? He's my best bet for retirement.

Someone will. There just isn't enough pitching to go around so some team will take him just by default.

EDIT: What's Ben Grieve doing on this list? When was he ever anything but a hot prospect?

Does Tony Clark count as a former star?

Also, Rickey is put out that Rickey isn't listed among former stars that might not get signed. Although, Rickey will always hold out hope that there will always be work for Rickey.
