Default John Henry, man of the people

But following a series of skeptical postings about the trade on a Red Sox fan Web site, a participant identified as "JohnWHenry" said, "Come on now. Don't start to waver on us. It's the holidays. Be of good cheer! It's going to be just a great, exciting season. Hang in there." The postings came at 4:26 a.m. Henry has confirmed that he uses that screen name for the "Sons of Sam Horn" bulletin board.

Craziness. Henry reassures the good people of Boston that the trade is happening.
The Evil Emp....ooops. This is Boston. I forgot. They are acting so much like Steinbrenner.

It's just MHO, but, I've been thinking this for a while now - - the more JW and loveable Larry talk, act, etc., the more they seem to be behaving in a manner like the person/org that they claim is so evil (Camp Stein).

The three of them - Henry, Larry and Georgie behave like three spoiled kids in a wading pool that's too small for them, fighting over space and toys. Sad part is, as much as this is getting tired to me (as a fan), I fear it's only the tip of the iceberg.........

Henry is Pee Wee
Larry is Dotty
and Stein is Francis

and the big adventure is not funny anymore.............

Steve - I'm not sure how this is acting like Stein, but I agree whole-heartedly with your statement. The way the Yanks and Sox have been acting of late has really turned me off to both teams. I fear that in the long run it could really be detrimental to baseball as a whole.

Everyone else has a LONG way to go to catch up to Big Stein. I don't see them ripping/replacing managers, overriding underlings, etc. Of course, they haven't been at it for years ... and years ... and years. And ... they don't have the successes that Stein has too.

The BoSox haven't turned me off by their dealings this offseason. I appreciate their competitiveness. The situation with Nomar is not pleasant, but he did turn down a 4yr/60M deal, so it's not like they didn't legitimately try.

Skip - Stein has his "X" amount of poop over a period of 31 years.

JW and Larry have been with the Sox how long?

The duo in Beantown's "childish behavior" ratio, on a day baisis, might actually exceed George.

And, of course, GS gets to offset some of his acts with the 6 rings.........J/K.

Larry and John Henry rip Stein alot. Yes.
But, yes, financially they are acting a lot like him right now.

Maybe they're acting like him because they think its the only way to beat him.
Or maybe they're doing it because they can and focus the media on the Yankees spending.
Realistically, why would any team need a payroll as large as the Yanks, Sox (or possibly the Orioles if certain people sign)

The best part about being a Red Sox fan in New York last year was crowing about the wiiiiide gap between Yankee and Sox payrolls. If this move goes through, I can kiss that fun goodbye.

As much as I'd like to see the Sox win a World Series, I don't want it to happen this way. It'll never be as fun to see A-Rod and Maggs celebrating a victory as it would be seeing Nomar and yes, even Manny.

The thing that befuddles me is that the Sox are acting out of desperation here. Do they really think that after almost beating the Yankees in the CS, with a group of guys that were a ton of fun to watch (okay, except when they were saying, "Cowboy up"), there were going to be a lot of empty seats at home games in 2004? It's not like the Mets, where the team needs to prove its a contender to get butts in seats.

My thoughts exactly (except for the "cowboy up" part, I hope they continue with that motto next year )

I would rather have seen the 2003 Sox win the World Series once than have a Red Sox dynasty based on outspending the competition and signing top dollar FA's. This whole situation reminds me of Bill James' descriptions of Ozzie Guillen and Ken Harvey, even though you know they aren't the best option for your team, you still are compelled to root for them over better options.
