Post NDF 2003-04 Winter Fun - 1893 Award Winners

For the season referenced in the subject line of this thread, who would be your pick for NL Best Batter, NL Best Pitcher, Best First Year in the NL Player, NL Manager of the Year, and NL Best Comeback Player?

Why?

It makes for remarkable and sincere discourse.

Best Batter: Ed Delahanty
The spark plug of a ridiculously good OF in 1893.

Best Pitcher: Amos Rusie
Struck out 101 more than anyone else.

Best Rookie: Bill Lange
Struggled at the plate and afield, but speedster was best of poor crop.

Best Manager: Al Buckenberger
Virtually matched win total of previous season in 25 fewer games.

Best Comeback: Elmer Smith
Finished transition from okay pitcher to very solid left-fielder.

Pitching Win Shares: Frank Killen (Pittsburgh) 42, Amos Rusie (New York) 41, Kid Nichols (Boston) 40, Cy Young (Cleveland) 35, Ted Breitenstein (St. Louis) 30.

Position players; Hugh Duffy (Boston) and Ed Delahanty (Philadelphia) 28, Herman Long (Boston) 26, Billy Nash (Boston) and Elmer Smith (Pittsburgh) 26, Tommy McCarthy (Boston) and Jesse Burkett (Cleveland) 24.

Not sure how Killen rates so high, he surrendered more walks than strikeouts. Rusie is by far the best choice. Sliding Billy Hamilton tops the rate stats, but played only 82 games. I'll go with Ed Delahanty as top player. Lange was almost certainly the top rookie.

Amos Rusie and Ed Delahanty were the NPOTY for 1893. I'll go with them, where applicable. Others to follow.

Best Batter: Ed Delhanty
Delhanty wins it over Elmer Smith and George Davis. Sliding Billy Hamilton had good stats but only played in 82 games.

Best Pitcher: Cy Young
Young in a close race over Nichols, Killen and Rusie. Lots of pitchers are bunched at the top.

Best Rookie (I am going by baseball-reference's debut listing): Bill "Little Eva" Lange
Good start to a decent career cut short by marriage! Was nicknamed "Little Eva" because of his dancing ability!

Best Manager: Frank Selee
Three in a row for Selee and the BeanEatars

Killen helps himself a ton at the plate. He had a OPS+ of 116 in 1893.
