For the season referenced in the subject line of this thread, who would be your pick for NL Best Batter, NL Best Pitcher, Best First Year in the NL Player, NL Manager of the Year, and NL Best Comeback Player?
Why?

Starting back at one league...
Best Batter: Dan Brouthers Got to imagine I've given him at least 6 of these... Best Pitcher: Cy Young The first of many. Best Rookie: George Cuppy Young, Clarkson, and this kid made for a dominant rotation in Cleveland. Best Manager: Patsy Tebeau Led Spiders to second-half championship and 160-gain in win%. Best Comeback: Ed Delahanty 156 point slugging % jump started run as the best player of the 1890's. |

1892 Win Shares:
Pitchers; Jack Stivetts (Boston) 49, Kid Nichols (Boston) 48, Bill Hutchison (Chicago) 45, Cy Young (Cleveland) 44, Gus Weyhing (Philadelphia) 36. Position players; Dan Brouthers (Brooklyn) 34, Bill Dahlen (Chicago) and Cupid Childs (Cleveland) 32, Elmer Smith (Pittsburgh) 31, Hugh Duffy (Boston) 29, Herman Long (Boston) 28, Bid McPhee (Cincinnati) 27. Cy Young was ERA leader by a safe margin, and tied for the lead in wins. I'll take him for top pitcher. Top player is Brouthers again. Not too many rookies of note, with two leagues folding into one. Nig Cuppy had the best year. Willie Keeler became the best player. Top manager to Frank Selee, for molding together Boston's pennant winners. |

Cy Young and Dan Brouthers were the NPOTY for 1892. I'll go with them, where applicable. Others to follow.

Best Batter: Dan Brouthers
A monster year in his return to the NL. Best Pitcher: Cy Young Had a great year in a hitter's park. His best year in the NL, Young didn't have a better season until after 1900. Best Manager: Patsy Tebeau Led the Indians to a large improvement. |
