Default Free agents start filing

1) The first 35 players filed for free agency.

I'll present a full list of free agents once they hit the open market. For those who don't want to wait, there is a list, which includes those who still have to have their options picked up or declined, at http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1644909

2) Whitesox P Bartolo Colon rejected the team's 3 year, $36 million (some of it deferred) offer. He will be a free agent and the Chicago Tribune speculates that while the Yankees are going to be interested in him, the Redsox may be a better fit

3) According to the Chicago Tribune, if Sammy Sosa and, to a lesser extent, Frank Thomas decide to exercise their contractual right to opt out of their contracts and become free agents, the Yankees are expected to be interested in them.

4) Redsox P John Burkett has been considering retirement. Now he says he will pitch in 2004. But, his career still may be over and he'll try to pitch for the US Olympic team, instead.

5) According to the Newark Star Ledger, the Mets may go over Japanese SS Kaz Matsui and then move SS Jose Reyes to 2B.
