Wink

I guess as manager maybe, it certainly isn't 2nd base.

A few random thoughts:

1. Any Cardinal list has to have Red on it.

2. The "Mad Hungarian" only had 1 20+ & 3 10+ save seasons in the Gateway City. Wouldn't Todd Worrell or Bruce Sutter be a better choice for relievers.

3. Names always get left off these lists. Here are a few that at least deserve honorable mention.
- Enos Slaughter
- Frankie Frisch
- Curt Flood
- Jim Bottomley
- Ray Lankford
- Jesse Haines
- Tommy Herr
- Bob Forsch
- Dizzy Dean

And to announce my Cardinal team I'll take the legendary Jack Buck every time.

Cool

I only picked one per position, so some deserving players were bound to get left out.
I love Sutter, it was between Al and Bruce and I chose Al, but Bruce certainly could be the closer, maybe should have.
Your comment about Buck was right on. Alright Red can coach third and The White Rat coaches 1st.

Am I the only guy who thinks Ray Lankford is overrated?

I don't know if Lankford is overrated or just that he never lived up to his potential. I remember thinking in the early 90's that this guy could be a superstar, but it never happened. I do think he was an above average player who anchored the Cards outfield for most of the 90's.

Well, for one I tried to pick one per position, second as much as I love him, Maris???? come on try again. Cepeda played for the Cards only two seasons, Maris two seasons and Torre only five. My only possible error was relief pitcher and center field.

I stand corrected (see below). Guess it was all the whiffs that distracted me?

1991-2000 NL OF, 5000+ PA, OWP

1 Barry Bonds .807
2 Larry Walker .675
3 Ray Lankford .620
4 Sammy Sosa .605
5 Luis Gonzalez .571
6 Steve Finley .558
7 Marquis Grissom .477

Nightal, I was just posting the players that at one time played for the Cardinals. I was judging there abilities based upon their prime. Just added to the list for discussion. I'm really not a cardinals expert.

I'm also a little biased towards Roger Maris, he's from my hometown, Fargo, ND.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the discussion letsplay2, I'm very protective and partial to the Cards, I always enjoy a good debate. Thanks for the post, I loved Maris too.
