1) Redsox SS Nomar Garciaparra was scratched from yesterday's lineup, due to an upper respiratory ailment and flulike symptoms. He may be able to return to the lineup today.

Garciaparra could have his 5th 30+ RCAA in his past 5 healthy seasons (6 years overall). He's off to a .532 SLG, .349 OBA, .881 OPS, 27 RCAA start in 143 games. Garciaparra has a .928 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and 244 RCAA in 915 games.

2) Devil Rays RF Aubrey Huff tied the team's single season record for hits, with 181, tying the mark set by Randy Winn, in 2020.

Huff's also set the team records for TB (319), EBH (78), IBB (16) and 2B (46).

3) A's LF Jose Guillen had to leave yesterday's game, due to a strained left wrist. He'll return to Oakland for a thorough exam and could be out for a few days.

4) Expos RF Vladimir Guerrero hit for the cycle.

After 22 RCAA/.943 OPS and 61 RCAA/1.010 OPS seasons, Guerrero is hitting .601 SLG, .426 OBA, 1.027 OPS, 29 RCAA in 100 games. He has a .979 career OPS, compared to his league average of .777, and 262 RCAA in 992 games.

5) The A's called up 1B Graham Koonce, 2B Esteban German, INF-OF Jason Grabowski, OF Mike Edwards, C Mark Johnson and P Jeremy Fikac, moved P Micah Bowie from the 15 to the 60 day DL and designated minor league P Roy Smith for assignment.

German had -2 RCAA/.500 OPS in 9 games with the 2002 A's.

Grabowski has 2 RCAA/.900 OPS in 8 career games, including 0 for 4 in 4 games in 2003.

After -6 RCAA/.720 OPS and -17 RCAA/.590 OPS seasons with the Whitesox, Johnson has a .154 SLG, .226 OBA, .380 OPS, -3 RCAA in 12 games. He has a .636 career OPS, compared to his league average of .774, and -50 RCAA in 314 games.

6) Diamondbacks RF Raul Mondesi had to leave yesterday's game, due to a mildly sprained ankle, and is day to day.

After -2 RCAA/.794 OPS and -6 RCAA/.740 OPS seasons, Mondesi is hitting .485 SLG, .347 OBA, .832 OPS, 12 RCAA in 137 games (first 98 with the Yankees). He has a .824 career OPS, compared to his league average of .769, and 131 RCAA in 1444 games.

7) According to the Chicago Tribune, the Whitesox may be close to giving 2B Roberto Alomar a contract extension.

8) A MRI on Marlins P Brad Penny’s elbow showed no damage to his damage and he’s expected to be able to start on Saturday.

9) Braves LF Chipper Jones missed yesterday's game, due to a sore left big toe.

After 65 RCAA/.1.032 OPS and 55 RCAA/.972 OPS seasons, Jones is hitting .507 SLG, .396 OBA, .903 OPS, 35 RCAA in 141 games. He has a .944 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and 410 RCAA in 1393 games.

In other news, the 2004 version of Lee's Sabermetric Baseball Encyclopedia is also forecasting a World Series championship for the Portland Beavers in 2025.
