1) Redsox RF Trot Nixon's strained left calf is expected to keep him out of the lineup until at least the weekend. But, BP's Will Carroll is reporting that it might be serious enough to put the rest of the season in jeopardy.
2) The Whitesox released P Jose Paniagua. Paniagua only pitched in 1 game for the Whitesox, one in which he gave up 4 runs in 1/3 IP, and made an obscene gesture to the homeplate umpire while walking off the field. 3) Twins P Joe Mays will have Tommy John surgery today. 4) The Rangers called up P Juan Dominguez. Dominguez had a 7.71 ERA/-4 RSAA in his first 3 career starts. 5) The Cardinals traded minor league P John Novinsky to the Brewers as the 2nd, of 2, players to be named later in the August 22 trade that sent P Mike DeJean to the Cardinals. 6) The Expos activated C Michael Barrett from the DL. After -31 RCAA/.655 OPS and -7 RCAA/.749 OPS seasons, Barrett is hitting .399 SLG, .275 OBA, .674 OPS, -16 RCAA in 61 games. He has a .698 career OPS, compared to his league average of .781, and -88 RCAA in 533 games. 7) Astros 2B Jeff Kent reached 400 career doubles. After 34 RCAA/.877 OPS and 46 RCAA/.933 OPS seasons, Kent is hitting .513 SLG, .344 OBA, .858 OPS, 11 RCAA in 114 games. He has a .855 career OPS, compared to his league average of .769, and 223 RCAA in 1616 games. 8) Diamondbacks P Curt Schilling won't be able to make his start tonight, due to a stiff neck, and is hoping to pitch again on Tuesday. 9) The Orioles activated P Omar Daal from the DL. Daal is being moved to the bullpen. After 4.46 ERA/-4 RSAA and 3.90 ERA/-3 RSAA seasons, Daal has a 5.86 ERA/-15 RSAA in 15 starts (16 games). He has a 4.51 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.38, and -29 RSAA in 389 games. 10) According to the Dayton Daily News, Pirates RF Reggie Sanders may be interested in returning to the Reds next year, with the team possibly interested in signing him to a 1 year contract. While Sanders has said he's considering returning to the Pirates, he'd also like a 2 year contract, which they'd probably not be interested in. 11) Indians P C.C. Sabathia was scratched from his start yesterday, due to flulike symptoms. After starting his career with 4.39 ERA/3 RSAA and 4.37 ERA/4 RSAA seasons, Sabathia has a 3.66 ERA/9 RSAA in 27 starts. 12) Yankees P Andy Pettitte moved into the team's top 5 career SO list. The new top 10-- Code:
However, he's not even close to that status, when compared to the league average-- Code:
After 3.99 ERA/11 RSAA and 3.27 ERA/16 RSAA seasons, Pettitte has a 4.30 ERA/0 RSAA in 30 starts. He has a 3.97 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.70, and 123 RSAA in 280 games. 13) Diamondbacks P Oscar Villarreal set the NL rookie record with his 79th game and also set the team's single season record. The team's top 10-- Code:
Villarreal has a 2.82 ERA/20 RSAA in his first 79 career games (1 start). The league record had been held by Tim Burke (1985 and Ricky Stone (2002). 14) Even though RF Matt Lawton is not going to need surgery on his inflamed right middle finger, the Indians confirmed that he will be out for the rest of the season. 15) Expos 2B Jose Vidro is day to day, due to a sore knee, and it's almost certainly just a matter of time before he's shut down for the rest of the season. After 9 RCAA/.856 OPS and 29 RCAA/.868 OPS seasons, Vidro has a .472 SLG, .401 OBA, .874 OPS, 14 RCAA in 131 games. He has a .840 career OPS, compared to his league average of .779, and 63 RCAA in 850 games. 16) The Marlins sent P Vladimir Nunez outright to the minors. He was already there and was removed from the 40 man roster when he was designated for assignment on Monday.
