Default Luck on his side

A guy gets drunk, passes out on railroad tracks, and survives being run over by a 100-car train. This proves that there are some advantages to being drunk, such as the ability to lie very still:

Two things that stood out in the story - his blood-alcohol level, and the request made by Union Pacific officials mentioned in the second-last paragraph.

Didn't cite him for trespassing...I guess the police figured he'd suffered enough.

Police have reported that drunk people survive accidents others would not have, because they are more relaxed and loose, rather than tensing up. On the other hand, would this guy have been on the tracks if he wasn't drunk?

That's what I thought was funny. Do they think the ticket would deter him better than being run over by a train?

His blood-alcohol level was off the chart. I guess being in critical condition is better than being dead. Amazing story, but what a waste of emergency resources.

I had to wonder about this:
Quote:
"It's been my experience that people who have gotten drunk and fallen asleep on railroad tracks - they don't survive," Peoria County Chief Deputy Sheriff Joe Needham said Tuesday.
er ... does this happen frequently in Peoria County?
