Question When A Uniform Is Not Uniform?

On Wednesday, the Blue Jays released their new and uniform styles for the 2004 season. On the YES Network broadcast of the Jays-Yanks game last night, they showed the uniform tops and s, etc.

The YES announcers said that the Jays actually wanted to wear the new unis for one game, on Wednesday, as part of the media/public release, but, MLB would not allow them - stating that you could not change your uniform and for one game during the season.

Am I nuts, or, what about all those games with the "throwback" uniforms? Is this not the same thing? Come to think of it, remember a few years back, when MLB had those stupid "Future Look" uniforms? - - I remember the version the M's had - it was terrible.

Is this a little inconsistent, or what?

They probably didn't go through "channels" and get the merch done. Argh!

That's what I was thinking. Have to clear this stuff with the proper authorities!

As smed said it was probably just a bureaucratic thing. Probably would have been better off doing it and then asking for forgiveness later.

I'm not necessarily sure if I like it even if it is sleek and hip...I personally liked the bush league Blue Jay with a tattoo . It might be the fact I can't see any red or a maple leaf in it...just doesn't have a Blue Jay feel to it. They're not pre-requisites, but the doesn't have a good "vibe" surrounding it because of that.

I actually forgot the opinion and reasoning I had, so anyone who was waiting for it will be gravely disappointed...and bored if they were doing that.

I don't like the presentation of the jay, and I really don't like the color scheme.

I wish MLB wouldn't have stepped in. I'd like to have seen the fan reaction to it.

is the removal of the word 'blue' still gonna go through (wasn't there something about removing the blue from the team name because of their association with different brewing companies?) - craig?

Here's a quote from an article on CBC:

"Our fans like to call us the Jays," Blue Jays senior vice-president of business affairs Lisa Novak said. "And the fans are the most important stakeholders in everything we do. We felt it would only be right to acknowledge them by giving recognition to this in the primary . Of course, the club name remains the Toronto Blue Jays as it is an important and cherished part of the team's identity and history."

Your comment about the brewing company association makes a lot of sense, since Labatt's (Blue) owned them for so long. Sounds like they've shelved the idea of a name change for now, maybe for fear of backlash?

I thought it was the Devil Rays' insignia at first glance.

I too noticed how close there were - - another reason why not to do it, IMHO.

Putting in my two cents worth - I hate the new . If they don't really want the a decent image or representation of a blue jay in their then they should change the team nickname
