1) The Padres activated P Trevor Hoffman from the DL and called up SS Khalil Greene, OF Xavier Nady, C Humberto Quintero and Ps Mike Bynum and Brandon Villafuerte.

After 3.43 ERA/4 RSAA and 2.73 ERA/7 RSAA seasons, Hoffman made his 2003 debut yesterday. He has a 2.78 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.28, and 96 RSAA in 633 games.

Greene, who turns 24 in October, could be the Padres starting SS in 2004. He was their first round pick in 2002 and, after playing in A and Hi-A last year, he had a .733 OPS (.327 OBA, .406 SLG) in 59 games in AA and a .788 OPS (.346 OBA, .442 SLG) in 76 games in AAA in 2003.

After playing 1 game in 2000, Nady is hitting .370 SLG, .304 OBA, .675 OPS, -11 RCAA in his first 93 games.

Bynum has a 6.75 ERA/-16 RSAA in 21 career games, including a 8.84 ERA/-11 RSAA in 7 games (2 starts) in 2003.

Villafuerte has a 4.29 ERA/-4 RSAA in 62 career games, including a 4.60 ERA/-3 RSAA in 22 games in 2003.

2) Dodgers RF Shawn Green has played the whole season with a sore shoulder, with the team's knowledge. He could have had surgery in spring training, which would have sidelined him for around the whole first half. He may be headed for offseason surgery, but BP's Will Carroll is reporting that's not a definite.

After 60 RCAA/.970 OPS and 42 RCAA/.944 OPS seasons, Green is hitting .435 SLG, .348 OBA, .783 OPS, 6 RCAA in his first 135 games. He has a .868 career OPS, compared to his league average of .779, and 206 RCAA in 135 games.

Green ranks 7th in the Dodgers RCAA list, since the team moved to LA--

Code:
RCAA 1 Pedro Guerrero 284 2 Mike Piazza 263 3 Gary Sheffield 218 4 Ron Cey 192 5 Steve Garvey 188 6 Reggie Smith 153 7 Shawn Green 127 8 Raul Mondesi 123 9 Davey Lopes 110 10 Dusty Baker 107

3) A MRI on Padres 1B Ryan Klesko's shoulder showed damage to the AC joint and he could have season ending surgery by the end of the week.

After 42 RCAA/.923 OPS and 49 RCAA/.925 OPS seasons, Klesko has a .456 SLG, .354 OBA, .810 OPS, 9 RCAA in 121 games. He has a .891 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and 243 RCAA in 1350 games.

4) Twins 1B Doug Mientkiewicz has been out of the lineup for the past couple of games, due to his sore wrist, and might not return until the weekend.

After 23 RCAA/.851 OPS and 5 RCAA/.756 OPS seasons, Mientkiewicz is hitting .457 SLG, .390 OBA, .847 OPS, 18 RCAA in his first 122 games. He has a .785 career OPS, compared to his league average of .768, and 20 RCAA in 545 games.

5) The Redsox called up 1B-OF Andy Abad and designated P Ryan Cameron for assignment.

Abad was 0 for 1 in 1 game with the 2001 A's. He's first in alphabetical order in A's history. But, while a single game would make him #1 in Redsox history among position players, Don Aase beats him on the overall list.

6) The BlueJays called up P Vinnie Chulk.

7) The Orioles activated LF Melvin Mora from the DL.

After -6 RCAA/.692 OPS and -1 RCAA/.742 OPS seasons, Mora is having a career year, hitting .518 SLG, .417 OBA, .934 OPS, 31 RCAA in his first 86 games. He has a .760 career OPS, compared to his league average of .770, and 13 RCAA in 561 games.

8) The Whitesox activated P Billy Koch from the DL, called up INF Aaron Miles, OF Armando Rios and Ps Jon Adkins and Jose Paniagua and designated P Mike Porzio for assignment.

After 4.80 ERA/0 RSAA and 3.27 ERA/14 RSAA seasons, Koch is off to a 5.55 ERA/-6 RSAA start in his first 51 games. He has a 3.76 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.66, and 40 RSAA in 328 games.

10) Tigers RF Bobby Higginson dropped his appeal of a 2 game suspension and started serving it yesterday.

Of course, the fact that Higginson has a sore hamstring helped lead to this decision. After 14 RCAA/.813 OPS and 9 RCAA/.762 OPS seasons, Higginson is hitting .377 SLG, .320 OBA, .697 OPS, -11 RCAA in his first 109 games. Laird is 3 for 6, with a double, in his first 6 career games.

13) Cardinals OF Eduardo Perez had an emergency appendectomy and is expected to miss at least the next couple of weeks.

After 0 RCAA/.790 and -4 RCAA/.744 OPS seasons, Perez is hitting .452 SLG, .356 OBA, .808 OPS, 5 RCAA in his first 94 games. He has a .738 career OPS, compared to his league average of .767, and -27 RCAA in 573 games.

14) Diamondbacks RF Raul Mondesi had to leave yesterday's game, due to a strained groin, and is day to day.

1) The Redsox have benched Manny Ramirez. The team is upset that he skipped Sundays game and missed a doctor's appointment. But, he shouldn't be expected to be out for long.

2) The Brewers traded P Valerio de los Santos to the Phillies for a player to be named later or cash.
