Yeah, especially if I can get my hands on it earlier. If I didn't have something of a personal interest in it, you couldn't pay me to read it. I'm so disinterested in Pete as a player that it surprises people when they talk to me that I don't know basic things about his career.

"Bud was close to making him eligible right after his meeting with Pete (November 2002). Right after that, Pete got into tax trouble (in California), and that delayed the process."
- Phillies Chairman Bill Giles in the Dayton Daily News, January 25th, 2004.

I expect I will read it. His earlier book, a diary of the 1974 season ghosted by Bob Hertzel and titled "Charlie Hustle" (a project done just a year too early) was pretty good.

I think it's just a red cover with PETE ROSE on it with big white letters.

How about Charlie standing in a jail with bars made of bats?

Default Reading Pete's latest lies

I will read his book. However, I'll wait until it hits the bargain bin. I lived in Cincinnati back when he got tossed and I'll tell you most people in that town were delusional about the whole thing. Even ignoring the gambling, Reds fans would foolishly argue that he was the greatest player ever.
I would try to calmly explain that he was very good (and very healthy which resulted in a record in one statistical category) but not even in the discussion of best ever and that would inflame the local passions.
Anyways, I'll read it to see what lies to fight when I move back there next year. :-)

They still are. An astonishing number of Reds fans want Pete back as manager. Scary.

There's no confusion about the author:

I can't explain the revulsion pete rose causes in me with words alone.

If I could get him to sign something, I would love to see the look on his face when I lit it on fire after he was done signing.

For those interested in buying the Rose book now, FYI, you can get it for $17.47 at amazon - and, if you use this link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...etshrinecom-20
NetShrine.com gets a referral credit (which always helps this site!).

Also, let's keep THIS thread to OUR reviews of the book and as to whether or not we will read it. Thanks.

Use this thread: http://www.netshrine.com/vbulletin2/...d.php?p=162073 to discuss the impact of the book on Rose's situation, etc. Thanks!

I don't have any real interest in reading the book, unless I saw it for $1.49 in the bargain bin somewhere.....then I'm still not sure if I would buy it.
