As of today, NetShrine has entered an agreement with R. Plapinger Baseball Books.
Anyone who purchases from R. Plapinger Baseball Books through NetShrine will help support NetShrine at no additional cost to them. How does this work? Simple: To see the R. Plapinger Baseball Books catalog, follow this link: www.netshrine.com/PlapingerCat37.pdf If there's something there that you're interested in picking up, send the order to: books@netshrine.com For each order placed through NetShrine, R. Plapinger Baseball Books will provide NetShrine a commission - - and there's no additional cost to you. Note that R. Plapinger Baseball Books provides SABR members a discount. If you are a member of SABR and are willing to purchase from R. Plapinger Baseball Books through NetShrine, you must let us know if you would like to waive the SABR discount, and have that go towards NetShrine. It's not required that you waive it, it's just an option that you have, if you would like to use it. There's no pressure whatsoever to waive the discount. It's strictly a "if you feel like it" thing. If you choose not to waive the discount, NetShrine will receive a reduced commission on those purchases. No biggie - just part of the deal. Questions? Post there here. Check out the catalog - it's very impressive. If money were no object, I would buy everything on there myself! Lots of great stuff there.

It makes for remarkable and sincere discourse. |

Sorry. I figured you got the emails since they were to a netshrine email addy and that you'd clarify for me and all at the same time.
His directions explained all the abbreviations and charges, and other stuff about the 'catalog' but didn't totally clarify the order process. He says check, money order, ... etc. are ok (but no credit cards), but unless I missed it, I don't know where to send money to, when or how he wants it since the order is placed via the internet, etc. Do I wait to hear from him or .... |

Exactly!
You send the order to books@netshrine.com and I will forward it to them - - next steps come from them. I'm the middle man for only two reasons: 1) So they know it's a NetShrine order; and, 2) So I know that it's a NetShrine order. ![]()

Seems weird. Place order effectively anonymously, then him back to me via you with directions, .... Do I ultimately make payment to Bahama National Bank?

How is the order anonymous?

I give no address, no nothing except a name (with no unique ID number I might add) off of a catalog, and send it in an email effectively to you. Its anonymous from the perspective of the guy supposedly receiving the order. If you have to be the total middleman, and re-code all that for him, then he contacts me using the info you've given him (not sure I like that) and then we work from there ... then that answers my question. But what a pain in your behind that must be, and it raises questions of privacy if you are passing personal info on from us to him.

I see. Just a name and an e-mail address are fine, with the "what" on the order, for me, to pass to them. Then you guys can work out the rest when they contact you.
BTW, Skip, thanks for supporting the NDF via your order. Much appreciated.

Heard from the guy overnight. Works nice and smooth - so long as Steve doesn't mind being the conduit. I misread one of the items I ordered - and the reality is it's way too pricey - but the other should be on the way shortly.
Thanks Steve |

I'd like to find a copy of Fred Pfeffer's "Scientific Ball" from 1889. Plapinger doesn't have it, nor do a couple of other similar guys I've found.

It doesn't show up on any of my usual rare book searches (alibris, abebooks, bookfinder, bibliofind, etc.) and there's no LoC listing. You might need to go to a reliable local rare book outlet or library and request an extended search. If you have a university nearby, you can sometimes have better luck there if you find a sympathetic librarian/research type who needs a diversion from working on their thesis.
