Cool Lee Seung-yeop Bidding War?

http://times.hankooki.com/lpage/spor...4270411620.htm

Quote:
It may not have been the longest homer of his career but Samsung Lions first baseman Lee Seung-yeop will probably remember the day he became the youngest player in the world to ever hit his 300th homerun.

Lucky number 300 sailed just over the 95-meter mark in right field off SK Wyverns pitcher Kim Won-hyung in the eighth inning. Then with the bases loaded in the ninth, Lee hit a grand slam for his 33rd homerun of the season to seal the game for the Lions who went on to win 8-4.

With the eighth-inning homer, Lee becomes the youngest player at 26 years old, 10 months and four days, to reach the milestone.

In comparison, Alex Rodriguez of the Texas Rangers was 27 years, eight months and six days old. World homerun leader, Sadaharu Oh of Japan, finished his career with 868, but his 300th came more than five months later than Lee...........

Lee will be leaving Korea at the end of this season to play in the American Major League. Many Major League teams have shown a great deal of interest in Lee in the past few years with MLB scouts becoming more of a common sight in Korean stadiums these days.

It is expected that there will be a fierce bidding war for his services once the season is over as Lee is considered one of the best all-around players in Asia

Which team with money needs a 1B?

POSTING TIP FOR THE DAY: When composing a post, think about what you would say if the intended recipient was an individual who was actually sitting just two feet in front of you, in person, rather than just some far away and anonymous audience who only can identify you as text on a PC screen - - and then write your post in that manner. It makes for remarkable and sincere discourse.

The Dodgers come to mind. Depending on Tino's contract, maybe the Cardinals too.

If Bud Selig isn't dismantling the Expos, he'd work out there as a way to give the team a better profle. Wil Cordero isn't the sort of guy you want regularly manning the spot these days. Also, he'd be good Vlad insurance in case his star power leaves.

It'll never happen but I can dream. Of course, if they're a San Juan team full time in 2004, he'd be best off someplace else.

He's compared most to Tino - the expectation is that he can hit .280 with 25 HR here.

Forget the bidding war - looks like the Angels have a new 1B: http://www.yonhapnews.net/Engnews/20...9181106E7.html

Why is anyone interested in this guy?? Has there ever been a hitter from South Korea that ever did anything yet?

I tried to use the SBE and it shows no one from South Korea has even batted in the ML's. I know this is a slight error since Hee Seop Choi played last year but he was a rookie and did nothing special.

How many rookies do something special? You have to give these guys 2 or 3 years sometimes to adjust.

So you are suggesting bidding on someone who will come to fruition in three years when they are 30??

No - but in the case of Choi, I'm saying the jury is still out. Back to Lee Seung-yeop - - - he's the Matsui of Korea, I'm sure he'll be a fine average 1B here - - - plus, it's good PR for the Angels - - there are many Koreans in SoCal, no?
