Default The History of Independent Baseball Leagues 1993-2002

Anyone reading it? Intending to get it?

Baseball America's Will Lingo had a nice write up on it recently.

Hadn't heard of it yet, I'll have to check my latest Baseball America.

Ain't much of a history, IMHO. I was hoping, when I saw the thread's title on the main board, it would have been a history of the ones that were older in scope, with some bones given to the Gulf States League of the mid-70's and some of the vagabond independent teams that flitted around during that era.

It's published by Mariah Press; a small outfit out of the Dakotas. I checked out their website. The book is 480 pages. It sounds like it's very stat heavy. It might be a good reference tool, but I don't know if it's worth $20.

Lemme see: If Miles Wolff is still the BBA publisher and the book is about Indy Leagues that began in the '90s, which is when Miles got into running the Northern League, the review in BBA is pretty much log-rolling in our time, isn't it? I haven't bought a BBA for years, so maybe Miles is out of that gig, but I doubt it.

Even if he's not the publisher, he still has friends and people that he hired there - so, your point works regardless.

I thought about the conflict of interest myself.

I'm new to the forum, but I plan on buying a copy of this book soon. It's more statistical than narrative history as I understand, but it should be a useful reference book for independent league fans like myself.

Once I get a chance to go through it, I'll let everyone know what it's all about.

Thanks for the heads up, this book sounds great (I'm a Northern League fan).
I'll have to wait to buy it until next month though, since I've already exhausted my baseball book budget for september...
