Griffey out for rest of season
While Jr. will go into the HOF, I think everyone will always ask 'what if" about him.

How many times is it now that he's been injured while a Red? I'm starting to feel bad for him...he's injury prone and not even playing on astroturf much anymore...
I think that, for his sake, he needs to be traded. Cincinnati is giving him bad karma. A new start might revive his career and place him in the CF Parthenon officially. |

He probably needs to go somewhwere and not play CF. He still has done enough to get into the HOF but it's not as much of a slam dunk as it originally looked.

Leaving Cincinnati would also give him a fresh start. The fans here are so disenchanted with him at this point that I think it will be hard to win them back. |

This also shows why active players should never be voted to any type of All-Century teams, IMO.

Here's the karma:

Trev - agreed, 100% about the all-century thing. I've said this before here; but, I'll say it again. His career will be just like his Dad's. Now, at his current age, his best days are behind him.

This makes me so sad ... Junior is the great "what could have been" of his generation. Whatever Bonds is going to achieve before he retires, in seven years or so we'd have seen Junior threatening to top him if it weren't for these injuries.

I feel bad for him, too. Obviously, still a Hall Of Famer after he retires, but it would have been fun to have seen what kind of numbers he would have had if he could have stayed healthy.

Junior shouldn't have been on the all century team over Frank Robinson, Stan Musial or Barry Bonds anyway.
If Ken wants to continue his career, he needs to become a left fielder or a DH. |

Another reason to stop admiring your hits and git'cher keister moving around the bases.
The DH idea is probably the only one that's going to work for him if he is going to have any chance at all of getting to 600 HRs. On the other hand, two of his last three injuries have been on the basepaths. (Designated Runner, anyone?) It's too bad because he's injuring his way down to a lower-tier HOFer. (And, no way should have been on the All Century team... but that's another story.) |

Just saw on ESPN news this AM, in the last 4 years, he will now miss 42% of his team's games. That's a bad ROI for the Reds.

You know, if you look at the difference between Griffey Sr's stats thru age 30 and after age 30, it's two different guys.
.816 OPS thru age 30. .766 OPS after age 30. 50 points is a lot. What's that about the apple and the tree.........

That is a bit unfair. If he had been busting it out of the box to leg out a double, the tendon would have broken anyway. This injury was going to happen one way or another. |

Sometimes life isn't fair
Griffey finally gets his swing back and this happens His career, in seasonal notation, looks like this: 11.81 seasons 41 HR - 117 RBI - 108 R BTW Juan Gonzales, who came up at the same time: 10.2 seasons 42 HR - 136 RBI - 102 Runs If Griffey can't stay healthy, Juan will pass him in all of the glamor stats (he's only one behind in rbi), at which point it will be very hard to argue that Juan does not belong in Cooperstown. Actually I think that about two or three decent seasons should clinch the deal for Gonzales anyway

How could any wrong that he did compare with that?" - John Sears |
