Mid-Season Playoff Match-Ups
If this were the end of the season, and not the ASG break, the playoff match-ups (based on the standings) would be:
In the American League - - Royals v. Yankees, and Mariners v. Red Sox In the National League - - Giants v. Phillies, and Astros v. Braves Assume these teams played now. Who would win each LDS match-up? Taking your winners to the LCS, who would win? Taking those winners to the WS, who would win it all? If possible, state why you think someone will win.

It makes for remarkable and sincere discourse. |

If they were played now, I'd pick:
Yankees over Royals (in a sweep) Mariners over Red Sox Giants over Phillies Braves over Astros Yankees over Mariners (close) Braves over Giants Yankees over Braves I think the winner of the Yanks-Mariners series would be world champs. The reason I pick the Yankees is pitching - they could go with a rotation of Clemens, Wells, Mussina and Pettitte, or use a 3-man and put one of them in the bullpen with Jeff Weaver. Even with their struggles, they still have a good pitching staff and a scary lineup. |

For me, it's: Yanks, M's, Astros, and Giants.
M's v. the Astros in the Series - 'tho the NLCS will be down to the last game. M's win the World Series. Again, this is a "now" thing - - how and what teams do in the 2nd half will change everything. It's always possible that something will happen with a team to make them "rise" and go to the next level.

Ok. Red Sox over the M's right now. Yanks over Royals.
Braves over Astros, Giants over Phillies Giants over Braves Red Sox Yankees ALCS? Jeesh, too close to call for me. My head says Yanks, my heart says Sox due to pitching collapse of Yanks. AL winner versus Giants...Giants in 6. |

Yankees take Series over Braves in 5, making all this "home field means everything" nonsense completely moot.

Giants, Braves, Mariners, and Yankees in the first round.
Mariners over the Yankees and Giants over the Braves in the LCS. Giants over the Mariners in the WS giving us another series in which the Eastern part of the country doesn't care. The games should all start at 7 pm PST. ![]()

Yankees forfeit - saying the Royals are "beneath" them because they don't spend enough money.
Red Sox over M's. Red Sox over Royals. Phils over Giants. Braves over Astros. Phils pummell Braves. Red Sox beat Phils 4-3. |

Thats likely...considering the 8 1/2 game difference in the standings at the all-star break, the phillies have really shown their dominance over the braves in 2003. i think phils pummell braves is a bit harsh at this point in the season.... -andrew |

Hey, it was a PREDICTION. More of what I really want to see happening than what will happen. Ease up. You don't see Yankee nation in arms about my comment about the Yanks / Royals series... |
