I need to apologize for the awfulness of today's ATM reports. The fact that they aren't late is deceptive. The reason for the non-lateness is because I had to cut corners today.
I've got a system in place of a few sources to work with for those mornings when I'm just too pressed for them to do my review of all of the news articles that I collect. You can count on 1 hand how many times I've had to do that in the past year and today was one of those days. The problem with today's reports is I had to spend the morning battling with my mother's laptop and with a clown at the store. Meanwhile, I'm too hot, too cranky and have too much of a headache to write any commentary. So, that has to be missing from today's reports. To make up for the late of commentary, I'll refund everyone's subscription price for the reports. But, instead of offering a refund for 1/365 of the $0 annual cost for the subscription, I'll be nice and offer a refund for 100% of the annual cost. On the surface, it's a bad business move to offer 365 times as much of a discount as I could have otherwise offered, but the heat has to be affecting my thinking. I'm going to bed. It may just be 1 PM, but good night. 1) Yesterday's scores-- Whitesox 4, Cubs 3 Indians 3, Reds 0 BlueJays 6, Expos 5 Yankees 6, Mets 4 Pirates 5, Rockies 3 Braves 8, Devil Rays 2 Diamondbacks 8, Tigers 3 Redsox 25, Marlins 8 Phillies 4, Orioles 2 (17) Royals 6, Cardinals 3 Rangers 10, Astros 7 Brewers 13, Twins 1 Mariners 8, Padres 2 Angels 3, Dodgers 0 Giants 6, A's 0 2) Standings-- Code:

1) Redsox CF Johnny Damon tied the major league record by getting 3 hits in the 1st inning. Damon tripled, doubled and then singled. The only other player to do it was Gene Stephens, also with the Redsox, on June 18, 1953.
2) The Redsox set the major league record by scoring 10 runs in the 1st inning before recording an out and tied the AL record for runs in the 1st inning, with 14. 3) The Astros placed 2B Jeff Kent on the 15 day DL, retroactive to June 19, and called up INF David Matranga. Matranga homered in his first major league AB yesterday, as a pinch hitter. 4) Indians P Jason Boyd dropped his appeal of his 3 game suspension and started serving it yesterday. 5) The Giants are benching 3B Edgardo Alfonzo. 6) The Devil Rays released minor league P John Rocker. 7) The Brewers called up P Dave Burba and sent P Ruben Quevedo to the minors. 8) The Reds activated P John Riedling from the DL and designated P Jimmy Anderson for assignment. 9) The Cardinals called up P Jimmy Journell and sent OF Kerry Robinson to the minors. 10) Dodgers LF Brian Jordan may have season ending knee surgery if his knee doesn't show significant improvement in about the next week. 11) Rangers RF Juan Gonzalez rejected his trade to the Expos. 12) Rangers 3B-1B Mark Teixeira was out of yesterday's lineup, due to back soreness, but then entered the game later on. 13) The Yankees will call up P Brandon Claussen before the 2nd game of today's doubleheader, which will he will start. 14) Marlins P Kevin Olsen was hit behind the right ear by a line drive. He was hospitalized overnight, but is expected to be OK. 15) The Indians sent C Josh Bard to the minors and called up C Victor Martinez. Martinez is a very highly rated catching prospect. 16) Cardinals RF J.D. Drew had to leave yesterday's game, due to a sore left ankle, and is day to day. 17) The Rockies designated P Todd Jones for assignment, sent P Scott Elarton to the minors, called up C Ben Petrick and Matt Miller and sent INF Brent Butler to the minors after he cleared waivers.
