1) Barry Bonds had to leave yesterday's game, due to a strained patellar tendon in his right knee. He'll have a MRI this morning and isn't expected to be in the lineup today.
2) The Redsox are still hoping to keep Pedro Martinez off the DL, but hasn't ruled out that possibility and the team's doctor says he's not going to be able to face Roger Clemens on Monday. Martinez might be able to return against the Yankees on Wednesday, but the best case scenario is probably going to be him returning next weekend. 3) The Angels placed P Troy Percival on the 15 day DL and called up INF Chone Figgins. After 2.65 ERA/14 RSAA and 1.92 ERA/15 RSAA seasons, Percival's off to a 4.50 ERA/0 RSAA start in his first 15 games. He has a 3.00 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.71, and 97 RSAA in 490 games. After having a .417 OPS/-2 RCAA in 15 games (12 PA) in 2002, Figgins is hitting .294 SLG, .324 OBA, .618 OPS, -2 RCAA in 11 games in 2003. 4) Yankees SS Derek Jeter was scratched from yesterday's lineup, due to a combination of a stiff left hamstring and bad weather conditions. 5) The Cardinals called up P Gabe Molina and sent OF Kerry Robinson to the minors. Molina has a 6.26 ERA/-10 RSAA in 44 career games. After starting his career with -4 RCAA/.674 OPS and -5 RCAA/.660 OPS seasons (he also played a total of 11 games in 1998-99), Robinson's hitting .179 SLG, .220 OBA, .399 OPS, -4 RCAA in his first 27 games (41 PA). 6) The Mets activated OF Jeromy Burnitz from the DL and sent OF Jeff Duncan to the minors. Duncan had a .800 OPS/0 RCAA in his first 3 major league games (2 for 5). 7) Astros RF Richard Hidalgo was scratched from yesterday's lineup, and was hospitalized, due to a acute tonsillitis. After a 46 RCAA/1.028 OPS in 2000, Hidalgo fell to 0 RCAA/.811 OPS and -11 RCAA/.734 OPS the past couple of seasons and is off to a .506 SLG, .404 OBA, .911 OPS, 11 RCAA start in his first 46 games. He has a .850 career OPS, compared to his league average of .782, and 46 RCAA in 660 games. 8) Mets P Scott Strickland has a torn ligament in his elbow. He feared that it was a 100% tear, that would require Tommy John surgery, but it's "only" 50% torn. Strickland's already on the DL is expected to now miss at least the next month and possibly the rest of the season. Meanwhile, he thinks the injury was caused by him trying to compensate for the groin injury that he kept silent for a couple of weeks and was what initially put him on the DL. According to Strickland, he was taught that "if you're not broke or gushing blood, you play." 9) The Reds placed P Ryan Dempster on the 15 day DL and called up INF Rainer Olmedo. After 4.94 ERA/-18 RSAA and 5.38 ERA/-28 RSAA seasons, Dempster's off to a 7.62 ERA/-19 RSAA start in his first 9 starts (10 games). He has a 4.97 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.40, and -70 RSAA in 149 games. Olmedo's only expected to remain in the majors until Jimmy Haynes takes Dempster's spot in the rotation when he comes off the DL on Tuesday. 10) The Devil Rays placed P Seth McClung on the 15 day DL and called up P Victor Zambrano. McClung has a strained elbow. He has a 5.35 ERA/-3 RSAA in his first 12 major league games (5 starts). After starting his career with 3.16 ERA/8 RSAA and 3.53 ERA/-13 RSAA seasons, Zambrano's off to a 6.29 ERA/-6 RSAA start in his first 10 games (5 starts).

After starting his career with .569 OPS/-5 RCAA (30 G) and .701 OPS/-3 RCAA (112 G) seasons, Sanchez is off to a .383 SLG, .318 OBA, .701 OPS, -6 RCAA start in his first 42 games. 5) Pirates utilityman Rob Mackowiak was arrested on DWI charges. After 4.33 ERA/-7 RSAA and 4.35 ERA/-9 RSAA seasons, Adams is off to a 3.27 ERA/2 RSAA in his first 24 games. He has a 4.07 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.31, and 7 RSAA in 455 games. 11) The Orioles placed OF Larry Bigbie on the 15 day DL and called up OF Luis Matos. Thanks for the link to Derek Zumsteg's story. However, it really makes me angry to see how the teams screw their fans.
