Cool Out West, There's Gold

Most would agree that the AL Central is not a strong division. And, in the AL East, you have Tampa and Baltimore as 40% of the division. Now, The AL West, they're really bringing it this year.

Use the Yankees as an example - - They started the season (through 4/21) with a record of 16-3. Yes, they won 16 out of 19 games. Then, on 4/22, they had a 24 game stretch where they only played AL West teams (running through 5/18). How did they do? 11 wins and 13 losses.

That's .458 ball - - compared to the .842 clip before facing the West.

This all said - in the AL, is it safe to conclude that the road to the World Series goes through the AL West? Or, is it too early to make that call?

POSTING TIP FOR THE DAY: When composing a post, think about what you would say if the intended recipient was an individual who was actually sitting just two feet in front of you, in person, rather than just some far away and anonymous audience who only can identify you as text on a PC screen - - and then write your post in that manner. It makes for remarkable and sincere discourse.

It's the West and the East, with a big hole in the Central.

It would be easy to say that the road to the AL pennant runs through Oakland, but it depends on who is hottest in October.

However, the Twins aren't exactly slouches, and thinking like this will probably ensure they wind up in the World Series. How many picked a Minnesota - Anaheim ALCS last year, anyway?

Playing any team from the A.L. West ain't no cakewalk and as I've said before, even Texas will put a hurtin' on you .

The West is best top to bottom, but then it's easier to do that when you've got fewer teams. At the top, where the playoff teams come from, Boston and NY have no reason to feel ashamed in a comparison to the West. The Central is definitely the weak sister, but I expect the Twins (or maybe even the Sox - who I picked to win the division) to make a decent showing by the end.
