Can you name the pitcher who led his league with walks
allowed and pitched in the World Serie that same year but for the other league?

Johnny Lindell was a guess - then I checked, and I was wrong. He had a very interesting career.

Yes Steve, Johnny Lindell was a top hitter for the Yankees
during the WWII, he had 28 triples for two years and had big WS vs. Dodgers in 47' then finish his career as a pitcher. Back to this trivia Q, here a clue. This guy was one of the worst pitcher a couple of year ago in all of baseball.

He must've had <156 BB's allowed (T100), since b-r.com keeps coming up w/Nolan Ryan in the 70s and he certainly isn't one of the worst out there, nor are the 70s recent.
Any more clues out there? |

When looking at b-r.com's BB's allowed by season list, I found nothing more recent than the 70s (lots of 19th century players listed though). The name I kept getting was Nolan Ryan, certainly not one of the "worst pitchers" out there by any margin. Since 156 BB's allowed per year was tied for 100th place, plus BBApp's saying that the person was recently one of the worst, I figured it must be a much lower number, such as 125 or even 100 done recently. Make sense now? |

I'm pretty sure the Dragon is right - Cone in '92.

Cone was acquired (via waivers, I think, late in the season) from the Mets by the Jays. He then pitched in the WS for them

Duque, that seems about right. I was thrown off by b-r.com's showing TOR above NYM, like he'd played for the Jays then was traded to the Mets. I have no idea why b-r.com reverses the order of teams played for in mid-season transactions.
Does anyone know if his 111 BB's led the league in 1992? |

Cone seems right to me as well. He was traded (not waived) to Jays for 2 minor leaguers (Jeff Kent & Ryan Thomson) late in the year. At the time of the trade he was leading the NL in K's, but eventually lost out to Smoltz by one. It would have been the 3rd year in a row, and at the time I was disappointed that he got nosed out at the end. He led the majors in K's but neither league.
I looked in b-r.com, which confirmed that he led the NL in BB with 82 over Ojeda (81) and Belcher (80) & Smoltz (80) |

YL, where's the part of b-r.com which shows he led the league in BB's? I didn't find it but I'm wondering if I was just too lazy. Link? Thanks.
