Mitch Williams wins for Atlantic City Surf
NASHUA, N.H. – Mitch "Wild Thing" Williams, the recently activated pitching coach of the Atlantic City Surf, recorded the victory Thursday night in a 4-3 win over Nashua in the independent Atlantic League.
Williams, the 36-year-old lefty whose major league career ended in 1997 when he was released by Kansas City, got two outs without giving up a hit. He walked one.
Williams, perhaps best known for allowing Joe Carter's home run that ended the 1993 World Series, joined the Surf in the offseason as a coach.
Earlier this month, the Surf put Williams on the roster. Williams had 192 saves while pitching for Philadelphia, Texas, the Chicago Cubs, Houston, California and Kansas City.
A crowd of 711 in Nashua saw Williams get the last two outs in the eighth inning with the game tied at 3. The Surf scored in the ninth.
