Talking NCAA Womens Softball Championship

http://espn.go.com/ncaa/news/2002/0512/1381688.html

I've probably watched as much of this on ESPN in the last three days as I have baseball coverage from anywhere in the same time span.

I'm hooked.

The Arizona-UCLA 2-1 game last night was awesome.

The level of enthusiasm that these young women play with is very refreshing, IMHO. Their passion and heart is an inspiration - - and, something that a few baseball players could stand to learn.

If you watch ESPN, I don't think it would have been possible not to have seen the women's game over the past few days. I was in a hotel room on Thursday, and when I flipped to ESPN, I got excited because I thought there was a baseball game on. When I saw it was women's softball, I was disappointed. However, once I started watching, I realized that it wasn't nearly as bad as my preconceived notions would have had me believe.

You're right about the way they play the game. It's not about anything else than playing the game, and they seem to stress teamwork and the whole concept of "team"much more than some of the guys we're used to.

I was also into watching their mannerisms - tugging on batting gloves, licking fingers, signaling two out - - - ball players are ball players- - - albeit men in the pros or women in college. Kinda neat.

I watched some today and noticed two things:

1. it was *really* enjoyable to watch. reminds me that as much as i love fantasy baseball, following the yankees and my favorite MLBers, etc, i really just love the game.

definitely noticed all the pro-esque mannerisms and stuff.

definitely a good call steve!!

oh yeah, and (2) the Arizona pitcher was hot. (whereas I generally dont find MLB pitchers hot... scratch that, never find them hot )

Not even Mussina?

You know, imagine if Mr. Power were to use this quote to start a new thread. People might think you were talking about The Big Unit.

Im not attracted to Mussina, no. But I'd marry him .

Seriously, though, no one would ever think I meant that quote about RJ . By the way, don't you think it would be easy to pick up women with a nickname like "Big Unit"?

OK, I will admit, as I much as I did enjoy watching the games; it was a little weird to see the pitcher wearing eye-liner. And, I'm not talking lamp-black here.

Not 100% sure I see the need to wear make-up/cosmetics on the ballfield - - unless you're looking to be an Anna K or something?

Then again, it was just the one girl I saw doing it - so, I can't question the whole group.
