My top five in order:

Thomson home run
Maeroski home run
Jackie Robinson re-breaking the color barrier (I figured Smed would point out that there were a few black players in the 1800s)
Don Larsen Perfect Game
Lou Gehrig Speech

That's a good list. I might put Jackie above Mazeroski, but otherwise, very good.

WT - They didn't have a barrier in ye olden days. It was established after the Walker Brothers, so no need to quibble 'bout that!

Default Baseball's Memorable Moments - Farce

http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/0912/1431084.html

So, as it stands now, only 4 of the top 10 most memorable events in baseball history occurred in the first 75% plus years of the game. And of those four, only 2 were for baseball on the field (Williams and Joe D in '41) while the others were cultural (Robinson and the color barrier) and emotional (Gehrig's farewell).

I hated this when they introduced it, and I hate it even more now. Everyone knew the votes would skew toward the present, heck even the choices of items for the ballot skewed toward the present. I guess this is MLB's idea of marketing.

If they can't go to the video tape, then it never happened, I guess.

Man, the Merkle game probably would be the #1 spectacle ever.

I assume it's nearly unanimous on this board that Branca's blown save is the biggest moment in MLB history?

The list is poor. Ichiro is a moment?
My top 5
Robinson, the cultural implications alone put it there.
Ripken 2131 (Ok I'm Biased)
Gehrig's speech
McGwire/Sosa
Aaron 715th.

Open voting never works out to the thinking of the cognoscenti.
