The record seems meaningless to me. So much of it has to do with the situation your team creates. As proof, I offer the fact that the record is held by that all-time great, Bobby Thigpen.

I certainly would not argue that Smoltz has not been of great value to the Braves this year. In fact he's had a fine career prior to becoming a reliever

If Cox is hung up on the closer role maybe Spooneybarger will do as a replacement, he's pitched really well at every level. |
