Alphabet Infield
Note: This Is A "Required Thread" For Those Participating In The NetShrine Discusion Forum Contest.
OK, here's the game - I'm going to name an INF (C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B) where all the players have last names that start with the letter "A." The first person that replies to this thread has to name an INF (C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B) where all the players have last names that start with the letter "B." The person that replies to the "B" group post has to name an INF where all the players have a last name that starts with "C." And, so on, until we get through the whole alphabet. They have to be actual MLB players (past or present) and have to have played at least one game at the position where you stick 'em. List both FIRST and LAST names - thanks. Here goes: C - Alan Ashby 1B - Cap Anson 2B - Roberto Alomar SS - Luke Appling 3B - Bob Aspromonte |

This sort of plays into the discussion on Banks on another thread, but all of the major sources list Carew as a firstbasemen. Why is it that I will always think of him as a second baseman? His bat was certainly more valuable there, and his hitting numbers don't look like a firstbaseman to me. Bill James actually ranks him as a second baseman because he ranks higher there. Maybe (I am a huge Carew fan) I feel compelled to do the same.
Even though I did this once... C Dick Dietz 1B Leon Durham 2B Bill Doran SS Alvin Dark 3B Doug DeCinces or the All Davis team C Jody 1B Alvin 2B Crash SS George 3B Russ

Patrick - funny on the Carew thing. It was close - 1130 games at 2B and 1184 games at 1B. But, he stopped playing 1B beginning in 1976. So, for most people - esp. those outside Minny - born after say 1964, they probably think of him as a 1B.
BTW, yes, you can play this game once then once - and are encouraged! C- Carlton Fisk 1B - Ferris Fain 2B - Nellie Fox SS - Tony Fernandez 3B - Jim Fregosi |
