It was the 3rd time Martinez led the AL. He also led in 1999-2000. It was the 2nd consecutive time Schilling led the NL.

Martinez's 8.09 SO/BB, from 1999-2001, set the major league record, breaking the mark of 7.46, by Greg Maddux, from 1995-97. Prior to the active players, the record was 6.55, by Cy Young, from 1904-06. LAST 4 YEARS (SINCE 1999) MAJORS--Pedro Martinez, 7.46 AL--Pedro Martinez, 7.46 NL--Curt Schilling, 5.77 It was the 3rd consecutive time Martinez led the majors and the AL. Martinez's 7.46 SO/BB broke the major league record of 6.73, by Greg Maddux, from 1994-97. Prior to the active players, the record was 6.00, by Cy Young, from 1903-06. Maddux broke the record with 4.78, from 1992-96, before raising it to 5.18 (1993-97), to 5.38 (1994-98) and then to 5.55. It was the 6th consecutive time Mussina led the AL. Maddux matched the record with 4.35, from 1991-99, before breaking it with 4.63, from 1992-00, and raising it to 5.20. It was the 5th consecutive time Mussina led the AL. LAST 10 YEARS (SINCE 1993) MAJORS--Greg Maddux, 4.87 AL--Mike Mussina, 3.58 NL--Greg Maddux, 4.87 It was the 6th consecutive time Maddux led the majors and the 8th consecutive time he led the NL. Maddux's 4.87 SO/BB broke his own major league record of 4.76, from 1992-2001. Prior to Maddux, the record was 4.16, by Sandy Koufax, from 1961-66 (even though he only pitched 6 of those years). Maddux broke the record with 4.37, from 1991-00, before raising it to 4.76 and then to 4.87. It was the 4th consecutive time Mussina led the AL.
