Default Redsox reach a deal with Mueller

1) The Redsox reached a tentative deal with free agent 3B Bill Mueller, with "only procedural matters" holding it up.

After .721 OPS/-12 RCAA and 10 RCAA/.851 OPS seasons, Mueller hit .393 SLG, .350 OBA, .743 OPS, 0 RCAA in 111 games (first 103 games with the Cubs, last 8 games with the Giants). He has a .769 career OPS, compared to his league average of .777, and 27 RCAA in 778 games.

2) Cardinals GM Walt Jocketty says RF J.D. Drew isn't expected to be ready for everyday play until the middle of May and it's uncertain whether he'll start the year on the DL or as a pinch hitter. Drew had complex knee surgery in October.

After 20 RCAA/.880 OPS and 47 RCAA/1.027 OPS seasons, Drew hit .429 SLG, .349 OBA, .778 OPS, 10 RCAA in 135 games. He has a .873 career OPS, compared to his league average of .783, and 82 RCAA in 497 games.

3) The Rockies signed free agent 3B Chris Stynes to a 1 year, $550,000 contract.

After 15 RCAA/.732 OPS and -10 RCAA/.732 OPS seasons, Stynes hit .374 SLG, .314 OBA, .688 OPS, -6 RCAA in 98 games with the Cubs. He has a .746 career OPS, compared to his league average of .775, and -17 RCAA in 616 games.

4) The Royals signed P Albie Lopez to a 1 year, $1.5 million contract.

After 4.13 ERA/16 RSAA and 4.81 ERA/-6 RSAA seasons, Lopez had a 4.37 ERA/-1 RSAA in 30 games (4 starts) with the Braves. He has a 4.73 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.64, and -7 RSAA in 282 games.

5) The Rangers signed C Chad Kreuter to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

After 9 RCAA/.827 OPS and 0 RCAA/.732 OPS seasons, Kreuter hit .379 SLG, .333 OBA, .712 OPS, -1 RCAA in 41 games with the Dodgers. He has a .694 career OPS, compared to his league average of .764, and -59 RCAA in 937 games.

6) The Dodgers signed P Yorkis Perez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

After pitching in the Mexican League in 2001, Perez had a 3.29 ERA/3 RSAA in 23 games with the Orioles. He has a 4.44 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.31, and 0 RSAA in 337 games.

7) The Reds signed Ps Felix Heredia and Kent Mercker to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

After 4.76 ERA/-4 RSAA and 6.17 ERA/-8 RSAA seasons, Heredia had a 3.61 ERA/5 RSAA in 53 games with the BlueJays. It was the 1st time in his career that he had a positive RSAA. Heredia has a 4.69 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.41, and -16 RSAA in 392 games.

After a 6.52 ERA/-8 RSAA in 2000, Mercker missed the entire 2001 season and had a 6.14 ERA/-5 RSAA in 58 games with the Rockies in 2002. He has a 4.38 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.23, and -3 RSAA in 425 games.

8) Pirates C Humberto Cota broke a bone in his hand last week. While he's not expected to ready to play for about 6 weeks, he's still expected to be ready for the start of spring training games.

Cota has a .308 SLG, .296 OBA, .604 OPS, -1 RCAA in 14 games over the past 2 years, 7 in each season.

9) The Pirates outrighted P Jim Mann to the minors, after he cleared waivers.

Mann had a 4.09 ERA/0 RSAA in 17 games with the Astros and also has 6 games of major league experience with the 2000 Mets and 2001 Astros.

10) The Cardinals signed P Dennis Springer to a minor league contract.

After pitching in just 6 games in 2000-01, Springer had a 6.75 ERA/0 RSAA in 1 game with the Dodgers in 2002. He has a 5.18 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.63, and -41 RSAA in 130 games.

11) Rangers RF Juan Gonzalez had outpatient surgery last month, to remove a fatty mass from his chest.

After 5 RCAA/.842 OPS and 38 RCAA/.960 OPS seasons, Gonzalez hit .451 SLG, .324 OBA, .776 OPS, -6 RCAA in 70 games. He has a .907 career OPS, compared to his league average of .762, and 271 RCAA in 1573 games.

12) The A's traded minor league OF John-Ford Griffin to the BlueJays for a player to be named later.

13) The Reds are moving Aaron Boone from 3B to 2B, with Brandon Larson taking over at 3B.

After .826 OPS/1 RCAA and .834 OPS/8 RCAA seasons, Boone hit .439 SLG, .314 OBA, .753 OPS, -12 RCAA in 162 games. He has a .780 career OPS, compared to his league average of .779, and -11 RCAA in 562 games.

After starting his career with a .353 OPS/-5 RCAA in 14 games in 2001, Larson hit .549 SLG, .362 OBA, .911 OPS, 2 RCAA in 23 games in 2002. He has a .695 career OPS, compared to his league average of .770, and -3 RCAA in 37 games. Larson had a very good year in AAA, with a 1.060 OPS (.393 OBA, .667 SLG), but, while he's had some good power years in the minors, he never had another season close to that.

14) The Marlins have agreed in principle on a deal with free agent OF Todd Hollandsworth, that could be announced today.

After -9 RCAA/.782 OPS and 15 RCAA/1.075 OPS (Coors) seasons, Hollandsworth hit .463 SLG, .344 OBA, .807 OPS, -8 RCAA in 134 games (first 95 with the Rockies, last 39 with the Rangers). He has a .778 career OPS, compared to his league average of .774, and 3 RCAA in 747 games.

Fatty mass? At least they won't confuse it with his heart which seems to be missing.
